View Full Version : 50M Can't connect to certain sites

As of this afternoon I am unable to connect to a number of sites (including cableforum.co.uk and the Virginmedia help forums) either by name or IP address.

I also seem to have acquired a new DNS suffix, or at least I don't remember seeing it before (croy.cable.virginmedia.com) I'm not sure if that's relevant (I live in Crawley).

Any works going on that might be causing this?

I've hooked up my 3G dongle to post this :)

Try using a proxy until the problem is sorted.

webcache.virginmedia.com on port 8080

I'm in Crawley too dude, same problems. I can't access the site you posted Mike, the loading just ends with error. I'm able to get onto the forum via anonymouse.org

loads of sites aren't appearing for me too. Tried VM 150, pointless phone call. Whats going on? My BB is maxing out on speedtests but fails to load up sites?

I'm getting something similar, can't access cableforum.co.uk, the VM forums or Wikipedia. Twitter and BBC News are having problems. DNS resolution seems to be OK.

Head end is Kempston (near Bedford). I'm on the 10Mb package.

I had a similar episode just a short while ago if you remember. I phoned India but they couldn't understand that my speeds were fine but browsing was like wading through treacle with lots of sites just timing out. The agent just wanted to remotely access my PC?? When I retorted "You must be joking" She hung up.

I then got an agent from Liverpool via Thinking of leaving us who, in just a couple of minutes, diagnosed a network problem and said it would be sorted in an hour, and it was. Brilliant service. :)

As for the proxy, you don't access it directly but indirectly via the proxy server option in whatever browser you use. Mind you while I was suffering from the issue it made no difference at all.

Getting exactly the same here, two calls to VM who deny there is an issue, and want to send an engineer out to replace my modem - arghhh!

Thanks for the tip.

I tried the proxy, but apart from much slower browsing, it didn't make any difference at all as far as the missing sites are concerned.

Strange that the Virginmedia help site is also inaccessible!

yeah i saw that thread, remote access ha! they didn't offer me that option when i called earlier although my systems disabled so its a no go area! i asked to be put through to the dedicated 50Mb support and still got put through aboard.. doesn't any UK agents work during the weekend?

i thought the webcache would of been a mask link :( retentions.. their at home drinking a cup of tea :(

Using the webcache I can now get to VM's Help & Support Forums and there are a couple of threads on there re this issue. Interestingly I just called up asking for an ETA, and was told there's no routing issue at all, makes you smile doesn't it!

Well it appears to be the 50mb and below services I think it's more likely location than speed. All the posts I've seen complaining with identifiable locations are in the south. I'm OK in the midlands and it says you're warrington.

I see Sirius says he has issues in Warington though. OK --- I've no idea.

I am in South Manchester on 10M BB. Symptoms exactly as described here. I had to connect to these forums via 3G on my iPhone to find a work around (webcache...) hence me being able to post this.
