Hi I have been having trouble for a while now but it's getting worse to the point where it's a waste of time trying to do anything.
My connection constantly drops out. The XBOX is connected via ethernet through VM Netgear router and managing to get a full game without the connection being lost is rare!
My desk top is also hardwired via ethernet and laptops wireless all of which constantly loose connection and cause major issues. Any one else suffering from this or have any ideas. I am on 10mb connection.

Thanks.

Thanks

If you cant resolve the issue dude and feel like investing in a new router, I strongly endorse Linksys. I have an avid fps gamer and my routers have never let me down.

When I hit http://192.168.0.1 I get nothing. When I diagnose I get the message "the device or resource is not set up to accept connections on port the world wide web service (HTTP)". Why is this?

Wait, I should have asked... Do you have a standalone modem + router combo or an allinone?

The usual problem when that happens is you are using a proxy.

don't worry about it. Proxy servers are used to filter traffic like certain websites coming in and out of your network. He is implying that a proxy server is blocking your request to get to your modem.

Didn't 192.168.100.1 work?

Not sure that's the best way to describer a proxy ..

A proxy is a device, be that hardware or software that sites between (for you) your PC and the Internet. You can direct all traffic or just certain bits of traffic through it.

Its used mainly for security or anonymity.

For a home user, its mostly setup by adding an address into your borwsers setting, the browser then hits that address when you search for web sites. The PC only then needs to talk to one place and the proxy does the wider work.

If, for whatever reason, your browsing gets a bit ropy it's worth trying to connect through the webcache.virginmedia.com proxy server on port 8080 as a temporary measure. Unfortunately it is easy to forget you have made these changes :( and when you need to access your modem or hub on the usual url you find it won't work.

At this point most folks will remember the changes they made but some won't until they get a gentle nudge.

HTH. :)

Glad to see all is well now. :tu:
