Hi There,

for few days now i am not getting more than 2.43 MB. I phoned technical support and they said it is congestion. Well, I don't believe that. I have been a customer since NTL and I never ever had this problem. They said it will come back at 1:30 due toheavy users. Well why aren't they thorttling them.
I am considering canceliing the whole package as I am paying aroudn 70 quid/month for TV/BB/Phone. Not worth it at that speed. It takes me back to the to 20th century.

Has anyone else has this problem and excuse?

Cheers

if you have downloaded a large amount, you are probably being throttled, as you would be throttled to 2.5mb, which means your speed tests would be around the 2.3 to 2.4 mark

that is the thing. I did not download anything and it has been like this for few days. Tech support said congestion.

ok I am gonna be pedantic but if you are really downloading @ 2.34MB then you are getting over twice what you pay for

Byte is a B and bit is a b so what I really assume you are getting is 2.34mb

far to many people here do not know their bits from their Bytes lol

Do this after you have this issue sorted, but if you are paying £70 a month for 10 meg/phone/tv you should probably phone up and choose the "thinking of leaving us" option and see what sort of deal you can get out of them as the price you are paying is probably a lot higher than it needs to be for the services you are getting.

I agree, I am actually looking at uSwitch right now ;) and Plusnet sound good and the new BT fibre connection.

No I am on 10mb. To be clear, since I got 10mb more than couple of years ago, it never went below 9mb. I would have easily noticed as I play online game and the game will jitter and unplayable. Browsing is slower etc. Anyway, I always check emy speed, like checking your engine's oil :)

well you have 4 downstream channels, so it looks like you are on either 30mb or 50mb

Can you post the config page?

hmmm. the mystery deepens :-) I never upgraded unless they did it without my knowledge. Anyway, that makes the problem worse. speedtst.net always shows 10 mb, and as I said for years it never went below 9 mb.

Cheers! You are definitely on 10meg (Max Traffic Rate : 10240000 bps)

I dont know exactly how VM have their tiers set-up, but I dont think anything below 30meg should be on DOCIS3 and using multiple downstreams, though it is all backwards compatible. The engineer should have replaced your old modem with an Ambit 256 not a VMNG300 (there isnt anything wrong with the modem you have, far from it!). Like I say, the VM staff who float around here will know more.

But this may end up being a good thing, as you can call up retentions tomorrow and if you can wrangle a discount and speed uplift to 30meg you can have it straight away without needing a new modem.

I called tech support twice this week and they gave identical answer. "your speed will go back to normal at 1:30 am". To me , it means they are deliberately throttling me for now reason. I dont come home till 8 pm from work. problem start 9 pm.

Might be an idea to setup a Thinkbroadband Ping Monitor to check utilisation. :)

http://thinkbroadband.com ; You'll have to sign up and follow the instructions on the Ping monitor page :)
