View Full Version : 50M is it worth upgrading to 50mbit?

Hey all..

so atm i am on the 20mbit service and thinking of either paying for the super hub to get the 30 which btw i seem to be getting 3mbit upload already but my download is still 20 with out the super hub.. but since i always use wireless and never with the ethernet is there even any point using the 50mbit? i am not sure if i can even achieve those speeds using a wifi connection.. on my old lap top i could only download up to 10mbit and the other 10 i would have to be connected to the ethernet port to receive full 20.. so now i have this macbook pro and i dont know if i would receive full 50 i think more like 30..

how can i tell what wifi speeds i would achieve? i dont want to upgrade if i will never receive the 50 as i wont be using the ethernet ever..

If you are just on about you new Macbook then it should be wireless "N" enabled which will allow you to get speeds of 50Mb depending on other factors of course.

Most users would not see any difference in 30Mb or 50Mb, it depends what you are using your connection for.

oh i see, so even 50mbit might be possible.. its a 13" from mid 2010.

using more then one computer, have 3 lap tops 2 desktops a ps3 connected at the same time but mainly during the evening when they are all used for youtube and websites and dling F1 from the bbci and other shows and dling ios firmwares and loads of other things like wow gaming and ps3 online gaming. also to download a tone of updates and app store apps and games. also i think apple will be releasing the next lion os in app store so pretty much all software i would usually buy on dvd i now will download and the games i can download and not worry about scratching any dvd..

but yeah that kind of thing also for work but that does not really use up any b/w i could probably be on a 56k for my work lol

You will not get 3Mb upload without the 30Mb Docsis file and then only on a Superhub.

i dont have the superhub but i receive the 3mbit upload.. just the download has stayed the same, but i do want to upgrade and get the super hub but i am just not sure if i am going to upgrade to 30 or the 50mbit since i only use wifi and i am not sure if i would achieve 50mbit download speeds over a wifi connection..

What figure is showing in the config for the upload.

Please post the Upstream and Downstream stats from your modem just click http://192.168.100.1/CmOpConfig.asp or if that does not work click http://192.168.100.1/

Look for Operational Config.

ah ok thanks :) so its 2mbit not 3? but the upload on the 20mbit was always 768kbit was that increased as well? plus since the uploads would go up to 320kbytes i thought it was 3mbit and they stay there for the whole download its not like it starts at that speed and slowly goes down
