Hey all,
Ok firstly I'm stupid, I decided to upgrade from the 250 blue modem which has served me well for years to this useless heap of rubbish which is the superhub.

Firstly I have had the superhub for 1 day and been trying to configure it for 6 hours now.
I went from the 20mb service to the 30mb (regretting it now!), basically I have been trying to follow the unofficial guide to live.co.uk guide to connecting a router to the virgin media super hub.

I have a D-Link DIR-685 and I want the superhub to act as the modem and the Dlink to do everything else (wireless, firewall, port forwarding etc)

The problem is I have followed the instructions to the letter and I can just not get the signal to pass successfully from the superhub to the dlink. I just get page can not be displayed.
The WAN address matches the superhub and everything looks like it should work but I just get a page can not be displayed link.

I can get the D-link to act as an access point but thats not really the same.

Can anyone help? Is there another guide I can follow?
HELP! ;)

If this is progress then I think I will go back to my old modem which gave me zero problems, :td:

Any help, support or tips richly appreciated.

:D

I currently have the router and super hub set up like the instructions but still nothing, infact when I connect them all together I can not even see the maintenance page of the router it will not show up.

Im getting tempted now to just phone up Virgin and demand a normal modem like some of you have.

I wished I had never upgraded now :(

the obvious problem is you have the dlink and superhub both sharing same lan ip.

So you need to do the following.

1 - move one of the 2 routers to a new subnet such as 192.168.1.x, the guide you said you followed mentions this.
2 - get the ip of the pc command prompt and this command 'ipconfig /all'

to move the superhub to 192.168.1.x goto the lan ip page, edit the 3rd box from 0 to 1 in the top part of page and then click on the bottom to clear dhcp. After this reboot the dlink or force a dhcp renewal so it fetches a new wan ip.

Also could some one tell me what is the difference between these instructions:

http://www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/faqs/167-how-to-connect-a-router-to-the-virgin-media-super-hub

and setting up my D link router to act as an access point?

Thank you! :)

Chrysalis

to setup as access point all you really need to do is connect the dlink to lan port on superhub and lan port on dlink, and disable dhcp on the dlink. dont do the dmz stuff.

Ok I will have a go at this now, I assume this lan ip is the setting pages for the router and sharing the same causes a conflict, which makes sense I suppose.

I will give it a try and repost......Thanks :)

Is there a difference though?

I know there are lots of problems with the firewall on the super hub, I have been experiencing them myself.

But if I set it up like a modem then disable all the firewall settings etc will I still have the same problems with the super hub behaving like a modem and the d link as the router?

Hi Chrysalis
Firstly thank you for all your help.

I am now in the following situation....
I managed to change the super hub lan to 192.168.11.1
I connected it to the d link after it rebooted and I am now getting on the internet through super hub >> Dlink >>> PC

Although, now I can access the lan address and settings of the router (happy days!) but can now not get into the lan of the super hub or the settings.

On the plus side I turned off firewall etc before I rebooted and currently I CAN now play you tube videos without them stopping.

Small progress :)

Chrysalis

you should be able to access superhub on http://192.168.11.1/

make a note of wan ip on the dlink and forward dmz to that ip and that is as close to a bridge mode you will get.

pop80_uk

Nope does not work, I assume this is quite bad :(

---------- Post added at 12:06 ---------- Previous post was at 12:02 ----------

Im also struggling to get the port forwarding to work on my D-link router, I assume that I can set up port forwarding through the D-link rather than having to use the awful super hub?

Thanks

Chrysalis
16-04-2011, 12:12
you can if you configured dmz.

what is the wan ip on the dlink?

if you cannot access the wan ip in http, then temporarily plug the pc direct into the superhub, enable dmz to the dlink ip and then move the cable back again.

pop80_uk
16-04-2011, 14:28
Wan ip of the router is
192.168.6.2

But I have no idea where this has come from, I tried plugging the cable back into the superhub as suggested but still get the page can not be displayed page when trying to access it.

Also the port is not open when I have tested it......

Ive been at this now for nearly a day, blumin Virgin! :/

Thanks again :)

Your awesome, http://192.168.100.1 worked first time.

Just port forwarding and DMZ to fix now

Still not sure why my WAN ip is not as I have set it, surely that should mirror the IP in the super hib DMZ settings?

This superhub is supercack, seems when ever you change the default LAN address you can never access the super hub again.

Has anyone successfully changed the LAN setting on the superhub?

Im really beginning to loose my sense of humor with it now. This should have taken 10 minutes

forget using the wan ip to access gui, misinformation from me sorry.

stick with the one that works now, set the DMZ and its set for the dlink to control the forwarding.

you dont need to change it on the superhub, just on your other router

Thats the problem, when I change either the LAN of the router or superhub I can then never access it again, and I have no idea why.

Its making setting up the DMZ impossible.

Couple that with the fact it has now disappeared from the DHCP lease info and im loosing the will to live. :td:

what have you done? it was working.

you changed the lan subnet which got you online.
you then can access the superhub using 192.168.100.1

all that should be left is adding the dlink wan ip to the dmz.

I had to reset the superhub as there was no way of accessing it, as when ever I change the lan address of either the super hub or my dlink router I can never actually get into them again after a reboot.

I thought it might have something to do with the fact I have a static IP but thats not the issue.

Ive just copied the MAC address from the dlink into the DHCP reservation list and given it an IP of 192.168.0.10
This should mirror the dlink settings, but it does not get away from my LAN problems.

Any ideas?

---------- Post added at 15:54 ---------- Previous post was at 15:43 ----------

All seems sorted on the connection and access front, I just started from scratch again.

I just need to try and get this port open now for the forwarding, then Im happy again! (well I still think the superhub is useless) but kind of happy :)

---------- Post added at 15:59 ---------- Previous post was at 15:54 ----------

Any ideas why I can still not get port forwarding to work?

The WAN address on my dlink, should be 192.168.0.10 as thats why I set up in the DHCP reservation on the superhub. Set up the DMZ the same

But its showing up in the routers status as WAN Ip of 192.168.100.2

Any ideas? Im baffled how its even working now? As looking at this it should not even allow me on the internet

Chrysalis

seems you have left both on the same subnet again and as such gone backwards, and in all honesty dont bother with the dhcp reservation thing it will work without it.

Ive changed the subnet LAN of the super router to 192.168.100.1 which works
The D-link is at 192.168.0.1

Cable > Superhub > Router > computer

And it works on everything except port forwarding.

The WAN IP of the Dlink is:192.168.100.2
The LAN is 192.168.0.1

The D link does not show up in the DHCP reservations list now anyway.

Do I need to set the DMZ as 192.168.100.2 ?

The MAC address under the WAN details of the dlink is the MAC of the PC though not the router MAC which is written on the back?

Do I need to set the port forwarding IP as the WAN IP of the Dlink?

Thanks! :)

---------- Post added at 16:39 ---------- Previous post was at 16:25 ----------

What I dont understand is why my PC's mac address is showing under the WAN settings as the MAC address in my Dlink router.

Coupled with it showing in the super hub under the DHCP lease page.

The MAC address for the dlink router is only showing under the LAN settings in the router status.

Should I try and set up the port forwarding through the superhub? will it make a difference?

I still can not see why it is not working, any ideas?

and the super hub has already completed thet 168.192.100.X for me.

I have no idea how to fix this and im not sure whats going on with the IP address as the PC has a static IP.

Any advice or help please :)

Thanks again

yes set the dmz to 192.168.100.2 then nothing else needs to be done on the superhub.

I wouldnt have used that range as it seems to conflict with the existing 192.168.100.x range on it but if its working then fine.
