I'm coming back to VM on 10 Mb after a few years away. I've seen the website and as you can't always rely 100% on VM i thought i'd check here first to see what i would get and how much it costs. I'm going to be on direct debit & eBilling so that should be just £21 pm for 10 Mb.

1. Is it free installation because the adverts on telly are saying it is?

2. Most importantly what modem will i get? There is only me using it so i will be connected by ethernet from modem to desktop. I don't like routers. VM have scared me off 30, 50 & 100Mb. Ah the simple days of just 10 Mb with a reliable modem and no router.

3. Anything else to look out for, bits of equipment i should be getting etc?

Thanks.

1. Installation should be free, they had the same deal 8 months ago when i ordered mine. Just make sure to ask before you purchase.

2. Most likely the standard 'hub' which is modem/router combo.

3. They should supply everything, although mine came without an Ethernet cable, fortunately i had one already.

Take my advice and stay well away

I have just taken out tv, broadband and phone, the engineers are miserable as sin, the customer service is poor always get put through to an indian call centre.

They took away my 6 month half price deal because i upgraded both tv and broadband (extra money for them)

so now instead of my bill being £35.99 a month the cheeky gets have given me £55.99 and charged me £30 to activate my virgin media super hub when it was me who upgraded to 30mb for the extra money

im cancelling my package in the next week or so and going with someone else just shopping around now

Chris I know you have problems at the moment with your changing packages & billing issues, but honestly VM is statistically the best ISP available at the moment.

Here are my speeds on 10mb, the same package you are thinking of buying. (I was up all night watching Criminal Minds if you are wondering what the spikes are :D)

That's because the Mancheser server is unreliable. For consistant results use London or Paris.

How many different types do they supply with 10Mb. Do they still give out the Ambit 256?

Also has anyone got a link to the latest VM advert?

I just saw an ad this evening with info of their latest offer. It was something like tv, Phone with unlimited weekend calls & 30Mb with a superhub for such an amount for the first 6 months then £25 thereafter and they just sold me over the phone a whopping £21 pm for a measly 10Mb when they know that my money is tight and he even tried to flog me a phone line for £5.50 aswell for a total of £26.50. No 1st 6 months offers or anything. He didn't even bother to say oh have you seen our latest advert it works out better that way. I have been without vm broadband for 2 years now because i wasn't treated well in the past and now i get treated like this. I should have known better. I will be cancelling tomorrow.

Just a basic Phone Line and basic 10Mb broadband £26.50 NOW AND after 6 months - ordered yesterday over the phone

Advert seen today - TV with a nice new box, Phone with unlimited weekend calls AND 30Mb with new superhub for such an amount for 1st 6 months and just £25 after.

Oh yeah, i had that through the post too. The 'deal' doesn't include your standard phoneline rate (£12.99) so it's more than it seems at first glance.

When i asked for ebilling they said i couldn't have it because i wasn't a customer and didn't have an email with them and would have to pay £1.25. So how is a new customer supposed to get ebilling. I thought they give you an email when you sign up, why couldn't they have just set it up on my new email.

So i said to them my dads a customer can you set it up on his email and they said yes. So now my ebilling account is on my dads email and they said when the broadband is installed phone us up and we will switch it to your email. More vm nonsense. Why cant they just set it up on my email in the first place. And what about those people who havn't got a family member who is a customer, why should they have to pay £1.25 when vm can just set it up on their new email straight away without all the hassle.

are people still allowed to be on 2mb? obviously not new customers, but if someone is on 2mb and they ring up to get a hub, do they not get upgraded to 10mb?

We still have people on 2Mb and it is usually a retentions package, I was wondering who would be first to notice.;)

No not if deliberately on a 2Mb package through their own choice.

who in their right mind would opt for 2mb broadband considering 10mb is a few pence upgrade, and there is 30, 50 and 100 on offer?

pensioners and their obsessions with 21st century devices lol
