Hi guys,

Due to have VM installed on 14th April at my new place - will be upgrading from a rather slow 2mb TalkTalk package to VM 30mb.

I was just interested what speed people actually get? So if you could share what you pay for and what your speed is in reality then it would be really appreciated.

Cheers for now.

I have 30 mbps and this is the speed I consistently get, my upload is low as my area hasn't been upgraded yet.
Had some teething issues but overall very happy.:)
Hope this helps

I get 31mb down, 1.09mb up, I pay for 30mb down 3mb up - however, I feel that I should mention that my "area" won't receive the upstream upgrade till July.

Cool, seems across the board you get what you pay for. That's good news!

I think the main concern is keeping the speed at all times.

Most of the complaints appear to be unstable connections, people not able to keep downloading at the full speed all the time.

Pay for 10M. This is what I get 99% of the time any time of day or night.

Upload not yet been upgraded. Mansfield NG18

Paying for 10MB, I've had this connection for almost 8 months; consistently getting this speed day&night. I'm having some problems with my line disconnecting at the moment, but I'm sure that it will be fixed. Virgin media has been the best ISP I've used in terms of getting what you pay for speed wise & reliability.

Cool - that's what I wanted to hear - think I have made a clever choice.

There are a lot of people happy with VM and of course some not, but remember you have a lot of departments posting on here and if worst comes to worst, I think we could arrange something through the moderators around getting things sorted.

Obviously there are channels to be followed, but we don't like to see people with issues.

With Fibre Optic cable Broadband you will get or at least be very close to the speed you pay for.
With a BT line it depends how far you live from the exchange as to waht speed you get.
I would not be happy paying for an "up to" 20 meg service and only getting say 3meg due to line length and quality.
When i lived in Leeds, i lived about 2 miles from the BT exchange and got 1meg which was not that long ago and lets face it, 1meg is well slow these days.

That's what I pay for and can get it almost anytime..Seem to have lost all my old tests, since speedtest changed though.. My real problem is this..

Try playing a run around game with that.. Whats more it's been going on for almost a year now... It's not consistently "F's" but I get more "F,D,C,B's" than I ever do "A's"

since I upgraded to 30mbit thats what I typically get. Mind you not from everywhere, but from speedtest.net and known fast sources its consistent.

I pay for 30Mbps but due to VM's "unlimited" definition, often get LESS than 56kbps during traffic shaped periods.

I get 32Mb down and 3.2Mb normally some times it drops to 30Mb but I will let that slip lol, I have always got what I pay for, well actually I had a issue with my 20Mb giving me 15Mb but that was sorted, when I had 50Mb I always got that speed day or night.

Do you download a lot in peak times?

Taf

Not a lot at all, but once the bandwidth is squeezed I must be one of MANY who are trying to DL anything in this area at the same time, so it's a log jam. Or is the bandwidth squeezed at a national level?

I pay £30 a month for 50 Meg :)

For now, untill you switch to 100 mb for £35 a month, then decide its too fast then go to 10 mb for £13.50 a month, them miss your 100 mb and compromise back to 30 mb £18.50 a month, then cancel your service because you're disgusted with its performance then go to sky, then decide sky is too slow then switch back to virgin :)

I did some time back there came out messed about with the router and got it around 47 but as soon as he left it went back down no word of a lie....I think they come in and then go to the VM box in the road turn something up to give more power then turn it down when they leave. I'm not saying they do this but its funny it worked well when he was here then left and then it dropped.

Anyway I have had my moan......
