I hope it's true!!!

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcasting/news/a300987/big-brother-channel-5-deal-weeks-away.html

Talks to bring Big Brother to Channel 5 are at "an advanced stage", industry insiders have claimed.

Broadcast reports that negotiations between the reality show's production company Endemol and Richard Desmond, the owner of Channel 5, have re-opened in recent months and a final deal could be just a few weeks away.

Big Brother was an innovation in TV when it started, but has run it's course and should now be left to TV history.

Nothing has been confirmed if it is being put on C5 and also CSI might not even be affected by it so a bit early to be worried about it really. Its not a done deal yet if they will air big brother but I have my fingers crossed that they will

For people who hate Big Brother it wrecks the evening TV on that channel, as it would affect the programmes i watch as they're on at prime time mid evening.

They even want to extend the time it is on! :td:

That is the problem i don't tape it, when i want to watch it i want it on mid evening, Big Brother just takes over the evening telly!

They should move big brother to mid afternoon and keep it there lol and leave the evening free for real TV.

Thing is it was never on 5 only ever on Channel 4 so you dont know how they are going to run it so dont be worring until the deals have gone through and they give times of the shows if they do agree the deal.

Of all the good stuff Sky bought (House, 24, etc), why did they not buy BB if it is so popular? Perhaps because even they draw the line at such poor quality TV.

Just wish if it has to come back it was on some obscure digital only channel where they could stream 24 hour viewing & no one would care. Rather than on a main terrestrial channel. It is that Ch5 have bizarrely chosen to bring this corpse of a show back to life that most object to. If they only show this on fiver I would be happy.

Sasha222
30-01-2011, 10:14
Channel 5 are not going to force anyone to watch it. They are going to air it if they come to an arrangement with Endomel and thats it. What people do after that is up to them.

Angua
30-01-2011, 10:14
Never watched past a couple of bits of the first show. The issue is with all the promotion of the show that goes on in the media. Wherever you looked there was some reference to BB so even if you never watched it, you were still subjected to the comments & promotional carp.

Sasha222

Yes but the programs must of us talk about are 45-50 minutes a week and not hundreds of hours that replace regular programs in the disheartening belief that it's what a majority of the UK public want, when in fact I think the last figures were dismal.

Not true as they were always looking for a buyer for the program..

Very surprised that BB doesn't purely go IP subscription based, people seem fanatical about watching complete strangers sitting round all day talking about nothing in particular, anyone who actually wants to watch that is also susceptible to paying for the privilege..

You do though have a perfect right to go in those threads and make constructive criticism in why you don't like those programmes, just because you do not choose to do so doesn't mean to say that everyone has to forgo their right to discussion whether fore or against as it's not against the sites rules nor is it considered bad netiqutte.. The threads are marked with the program name and not "Only for fans of 'the programme'" ;)

I just get on with finding other things to do and the people who like sport or other programmes like Sci_fi and othre stuff I have never seen them having to defend the fact that they like those programmes

Yep, same here. I have digital TV and I find something else to watch, we have VoD too if nothing is on ;)

Why do you feel the need to defend the fact that you like the program? It's your life, your TV and your time. Just ignore them and watch the show..

Everyone though is entitled to an opinion, just the same as yourself saying that you had given up on one TV program and won't watch it twice within the same thread ;)

Same here :)

In my opinion there is a difference between Big Brother and the other programms you mention.
These are specifically written and have a storyline, have actors who are working hard to portray and make the show you are watching believable.

Big Brother has no storyline, no actors, and frankly if I wanted to watch people do nothing or stupid tasks all day then I may as well just look at people in real life, not on the TV.

Don't get me wrong, when this show first started it was interesting to see an experiment how people would get on together in a house but I really cant understand people who watch this 24/7 on TV, online, and on their phones.
The world is more exciting outside of the TV so press the off button and step outside.

You lot love the programme so enjoy if it returns but expect the occasional joke or picture to be included.

I thought that it had run its course especially with Channel 4 cancelling it which is unusual if they thought it possible to go on, maybe Channel Five will be successful with their revamp but at this time no one knows.

To be honest there is little wrong with the format. It only went wrong when C4 & The rights owners had differing ideas on what they wanted to do with the show. That and monet is what killed the format on C4. 12 months without rights in the UK is whats kicked the rights owners into gear to get here act sorted.

I could be wrong but channel 4 didn't want go keep it and wanted I think to kill it of so no other company would touch it. A lot of the audience bycotted it also when the live feed on the red button was taken away. They only gave back the live feed last year when you paid for it online when they were getting a lot of flack over it. The ratings were very good last year for both CBB and the ordinary bb. Endemol wanted them to show the live feed for a long time and if they did show it they would have had a lot more people watching it

You could only get it the full live feede via the red button and then on the back of the red button you could get all the live feed on sky if you put in the frequency no but then channel 4 took away full live feed so you could only watch an hour or sometimes half an hour and then it came back on again at one or two in the morning when they were all gone to ged or going to bed

It was live live for years and then one Friday night when Divina went lve to the house someone in the house said a swear word and it was before the watershed so they delayed it for the 15mins then after that.

Pretty sure that was never the case as during the first series there was always a 15 min delay and that was even on the "live" web feed (that was free at the time) that would have possably been exempt from such broadcasting regulations at the time.

So think they have always used the 15 min delay within a "live" feed for more political reasons than regulation reasons (easy to get aboyt 18 rated content (scenes or language) like PPV do with films these days). As there have always been ways to "adult" protect live feeds to satisfy regulators had that ever been needed on the net?.

Well as long as Channel 5 manage to show BB and keep up the schedule for it's other shows I can't see any problem. My biggest complaint with it on 4 was the other satellite shows around it discussing it endlessly. At long as it's not on all the subsidiary 5 channels and those of us who watch 5 normally don't get it stuffed down our throats I shan't mind.

4 went a bit over the top with it but if 5 use some common sense I'm sure things will be OK.Even with the change to 5 I can't see it regaining it's former popularity

Videos went out 50 years ago :P and i only have/need a TV in the bedroom, like i said i don't wish to record it i wish to watch it prime time mid evening when it is always on, this was my moan about BB as BB takes over the telly like no other programme does, when BB is on it may take over the channel every night for 3 months and this is the reason why people who hate BB moan so much and it can't be compared to other TV programmes in the same way. :)

I bought my videos 5yrs ago so exradration really and are going very strong still. Big brother has only been on Channel 4 for an hour an night and also it was on for an hour live feed or less on e4 at lunch time and came back on again late at night so it didn't take over any programmes. It was on an hour and a half on a Friday night for the eviction and then a programme was on while the votes were counted and came back on for a half an hour to do the interview so how is that taken over.

I could say that about football and soccer as it sometimes takes over programmes I like but I couldn't be bothered complaining as other people like it. I can also say I find it crazy grown men/women running up and down a field trying to get a ball into a net and hugging each other when it does but hey different things for different folks

Completely different in my opinion, the World Cup is only on for about 4 weeks every 4 years and not every night on the same channel for 3 months, so you can't compare it. :)

Anyway if BB only affects 1hr each evening on the same channel then i guess it is bearable!

A celebrity edition could be on air within months, while a series with everyday people is set to be broadcast on the summer of 2012.

Former host Davina McCall has backed the plans and tipped 'Big Brother's Little Brother' co-host Emma Willis to take over the presenting duties.

SOCCER

Is actually the English derived name for the sport not American.

It is derived from the term Association Football.

Back in the day you has Association Football and Rugby Football (or depending when Rugby Union Football and Rugby League Football).

Soccer or Rugger

So in the UK, and the rest of the world, the terms Soccer and Football are equally valid for our National Sport.

Always a laugh about how the English get upset at others using the word football - it's not your word! They always claim no-one in the UK uses the word soccer whereas a quick glance at the TV listings will prove them wrong.

Go to America - Football will be NFL
Go to Australia - Football will be Aussie Rules
Go to Canada - Football will be CFL
Go to Ireland - Football will be Gaelic
Go to New Zealand - Football will be Rugby Union

I believe it was only Telewest viewers that had the red button live feed, for only one or two series

It wasn't just Telewest. I was/am with VM (former NTL area - not Telewest) and had red button live service for one or two seasons with VM. I was really interested in it in the beginning. Couldn't be bothered with a few seasons in the middle, but have watched the last 3 or 4. Always watch the launch with a view to not watching the series, but get hooked anyway.

I did think it was getting past its sell by date, and was quite happy that they were ending it.

The Channel 5 thing though isn't new news - it was announced halfway through the series that C5 were buying it. Obviously talks have taken longer than planned, but it's not a surprise. Rumours were high that it was going to completely revamp the format.
