Can anyone advise if this is possible? There's a few old threads on different boards imply it wasn't possible (more than 6 months ago) a rumour of a deal being done soon and now I've read it is possible according to Virgin.

Cheers in advance

All providers have to be able to port numbers so there should not be a problem. the only problem that could arise is if the number has been disconnected ( as it would not be able to be ported ).

As it says on the thread link that you have posted they will contact you if there are any problems.

If you are moving from one phone supplier to another the important thing to remember is not to cancel with the old provider. Instead you should instruct the new provider to port your number across. If you cancel the old provider before you do this then the number port will be rejected.

Its not (usually) about one provider being difficult. Though until recently it wasn't possible to port a number back from Virgin to Sky I believe there is now a deal in place allowing this to happen. Porting the other way has not been a problem AFAIK if the afore mentioned procedure is followed.

by law they have to release the number even if you are in contract, but number porting from one side of the exchange to the other is quite hard and things can go very wrong. there is an easy way to do it and quicker, you can have your line stopped not ceased virgin can then restart that number on there side of the exchange. but best advice is to do it the proper way so there is no mistakes
