Moving to Salford Quays (http://www.manchesterconfidential.co.uk/News/General/Granada-agrees-MediaCity-move_16415.asp)...

Would be good if the old set is taken over by MOSI. People get to see it once more and money could be raised to pump into the museum facilities.

I think it was because they are going HD and that viewers would be able to see the joins.

Planning permission for the move has been approved:

And they're building it bigger for HD filming ;)

The new set, on a 7.7 acre site, will replicate the appearance of the original Weatherfield but will be built on a larger scale to cater for the demands of high definition TV.
