I will not be using a DVD player but will have a HDMI connection to the Virgin box . i am preparing the channelling through an old fire place will i need a scart connection as well ?

Firstly welcome :)
I've moved your thread to somewhere a bit more appropriate too.
I can't see why you would need a scart connection. But as always if I'm wrong someone will be along shortly to correct me :)

You don't need a scart but my advice would be to put one in anyway if you are digging into walls.
You never know, you may need one later on for something else.

Cool, I have not thought about it!
Found this on ebay even cheaper:

Will it work for 100%?

Thank you all for your support!

It will work, but with a substantial drop in picture quality compared to rgb via scart.
