View Full Version : How does RG6 connector work?
Hi - I'd like to shorten the wires I have from the VM splitter (one for TV and one for broadband). I've bought the RG6 Plug Twist Connectors but I don't understand how they work. Does anyone how to use them/how to fix them to the wire? Any help much appreciated. Thanks GB

Just a warning if you are doing this, get it wrong with a strand in the wrong place and you'll play havoc with your own services and perhaps that of your neighbour. Even if you do make a perfect joint just changing trhe length of a cable can alter it's electronic properties and resistance to signals. Again if your current service strengths are marginal you might find a deterioration.

Whilst theoretical true this is very extreme. If you do a half decent job following the guide you will be fine.
Thanks Guys. I don't have any obvious numbers on my box. But, I've added some to the attached picture. Would you mind explaining which wire, should go where? Also - how do the wires work? The metal core doesn't look like it is in contact with the sockets (1 to 7). Any help, much appreciated. GB2010 ;)

The photo you have taken is nothing to do with the coaxial (RG6) it is in fact your phone line which is a separate cable
Apologies - that was meant for another post! Many thanks for your help. All sorted :)
Just to say that those screw-on connectors are rubbish, Virgin use decent compression connectors for a reason, and whilst your one connector may seem fine, the cumulative effect of any RF "noise" from these type of "home-made" connections causes VM no end of problems.
What a load of rubbish, the only differences between Crimp on and screw on is
1# a tighter more weatherproof seal
2# Less likely to be pulled off.
Both Crimp and screw on F plugs make a contact connection with the coaxial braid with the main signal path (centre core) being nothing to do with the F-plug itself as it uses the co-axial wire itself to perform the contact.
Don't blame the plug when 99% of problems with them are problems by the user not knowing how to fit them correctly
