ive recently had my 20mb service upgraded to 50mb and i think its pretty much waste of time ive phoned tech support and they cant figure out how im not getting it
the engineer didnt have a clue what he was doing ended up borrowing my laptop and installing loads of junk on it

heres a quickTest

1: 1024K took 358 ms = 2860.3 KB/sec, approx 23569 Kbps, 23.02 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 322 ms = 3180.1 KB/sec, approx 26204 Kbps, 25.59 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 314 ms = 3261.1 KB/sec, approx 26871 Kbps, 26.24 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 639 ms = 3205 KB/sec, approx 26409 Kbps, 25.79 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 25763 Kbps, 25.16 Mbps

thanks ade

Firstly I wouldn't trust the speed test results as I've never had an accurate result from here. Try the london server at speedtest.net.

Second, can you post your full modem stats and log file.

Click this link and follow the instructions and choose large games like Battlefield 2142,bfme demo, company of heroes and dark messiah then you should get a truer view of your speeds.

http://www.virginmedia.com/testmyspeed/manual.php

If you are still not happy then call in on 08800 052 0431 and speak to a member of the 50Mb Support Team.

No we need your Downstream page and your Upstream page not that page which just shows what your provisioned speed is nothing more.

It is not a matter of the closest server but a server that can handle 50Mb as not all can, so you are still advised to use the London one.(you didn't post the result anyway).

As Masque says the important modem stats are the u/stream d/stream pages, I suggested the modem log file as well as it can help pinpoint a problem.

No doubt Masque will correct me if I'm wrong but I would consider your d/s power level verging on the high side. Your upstream is within spec though.

ok so how would i be able to resolve this problem if possible
thanks for the great help btw

You cannot resolve it, an engineer needs to visit so ring in on the number Masque gave you.

Just noticed he made a typo, Here it is though 0800 052 0431

after this morning i had a visit from an engineer he tried the power levels as pre instructed then with still slow down speeds another engineer was called out he brought his laptop installed with xp and tried the virgin speed test which reached 50mb no problem so he checked out my laptop with wire and wireless

in the end it worked out wrong plug on router and had to change channel on the wireless settings then tried speeds which i was happy with at point it reached 100mb which was jaw dropping but now very happy with my 50mb speeds

Try starting a thread rather than hiding your post amongst a 50Mb fault thread.;)
