Hi,

Is it normal for a wireless connection to change drastically when the laptop is moved half a yard?

I have the router upstairs with pc and cable modem. Its as near as I can possibly get it to the laptop.

I'm paying for 20 mb Broadband. In one part of the lounge it is a good connection. But I go to the sofa and its 6mbs. Then I stand up and its 16 mbs.

Is this normal? Its a tenda 300n router

thanks

It's exactly the same with my mobile. At one side of the room I get no signal, at the other I get a full signal.

You could experiment changing the channel in the router.

That was my next question...............is the "auto channel" function on the routers worth using? does it pick up the strongest signal always?

Not necessarily, depends on other wireless connections around you which could cause interference.

so frustrating.

i pick up a really good broadband speed on, say channel 9...... at 16mbs. then in 15 mins, it's 5 mb/s and i haven't moved a muscle.

Joys of a wireless connection.
