hi

we just had 50mb installed earlier, which is working fine (or was when the installer left), but has dropped several times since (telling the router to reset the dhcp seems to fix it, but it's happened with both the new Dlink router, and my trusty Linksys WRT54GL so i'm guessing not a router issue as such).

Looking at the signal levels they look like they might be a little high compared to the signal level sticky

Should I call VM tonight, or leave it and see what happens?

Well it is my sticky and you do need to call the 50Mb Support team on 0800 052 0431if you are suffering dropouts.;)

cheers :)

I'll do that later if it happens again, I wasn't sure if the signal levels might fluctuate a little at first :)

I rather doubt the levels will drop, what is the Upstream level.

Ive never seen a modem yet that will drop due to high power levels

High power levels on 50Mb are not recommended or within spec, and on a new install the tech should know better.

Upstream is 39.71 which looks pretty much spot on.

I'll probably give them a ring Monday as it hasn't dropped since this afternoon (so not urgent), the engineer (one of the more cheerful ones I've met) originally tried it without the attenuator that was on the old modem, looked at the levels and went "I can see why it's there", but seemed happy enough with the levels after putting it back on, hence part of the reason i wasn't sure if they fluctuated at all :)

I must say I'm impressed with the 50mb so far as i've been able to download several games/demos/mods from Steam without the usual complaints of "are you downloading something" from the resident Ultima Online addict, or the FPS lover :p

As it's been dropping out constantly today* I rang the number and got a foreign call centre who had me reboot the modem/router, I think i'm meant to be getting a call back to arrange a new modem (very bad line, i had to have it on speaker just to have a chance of hearing)...although why a new modem given it appears to be a signal level issue I don't quite know.

*Watching the signal levels it seems to drop at about 11
