Hi all, hoping you can help,

was trying to watch some of the streamed election material on the bbc and noticed I was getting stuttering video. After trying different browsers (in the past codec support in Chrome broke for a bit) I didn't get any joy so went to speedtest.net.

Got a result of downstream speed about 1.6Mbs. Retried a few times, best I got was 2Mbps.

Checked out Virgin media status - nothing wrong in my area (though some problems 'up the road' in wimbledon in SW19/SW19 - but they were meant to be fixed anyway)

Phone up customer service - got offshore guy quite quickly. asked me to power cycle modem, then 'sent reset codes to modem' asked to wait 20 mins and try again - still get rubbish speed.

Waited a few hours, powered down other things on network - now getting max of 6Mbps.

I should have said earlier - I normally get between 40-50Mbps (as reported by speedtest.net).

read lots of posts here - nothing similar. also tried virgin game servers - get very slow downloads on battle field download.

New to reporting modem stats - what else is helpful?

Any help gratefully received.

Will try customer services again tomorrow (eeek - today)

Your d/s power levels are way too high. Give the 50Mb team a ring in the morning.

Thanks. I gave them a call and the earliest they can send a technician round is Monday morning.

Can I ask though :- what would make this change so drastically - I'm pretty sure I've looked at the downstream data a while back and it was not that high.

I know weather can affect things - but its not that hot or wet etc. The cable run is very short to the virgin street cabinet - just across the road.

So this is definitely a hardware / config issue? Not s/w? e.g. they haven't started doing traffic management on XL 50Mb users or anything?

Many thanks,

Bill

No traffic management yet so got to be hardware.

The is no Traffic Management on 50Mb.:)

As per previous posts your Downstream is way to high and any 50Mb agent would book you an engineer for that reason alone.

Check this sticky for the power levels for 50Mb just click HERE (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/34896851-post3.html).
