Apparently the newer boxes are coming with a 500 gig hdd and if your loaded and want the deluxe box for 300 notes you get one with 1.5 tb

---------- Post added at 00:58 ---------- Previous post was at 00:57 ----------

The other plus point is if you just have it as a standard box you get freeview HD included ie Channel 4 HD and BBC HD

Wowzers.. Maybe SKY have pushed the boat out, to beat VM... dang it.. I'm paying nearly £33.00 for my "standard" TV package alone, with VM. Seriously tempted..

It is indeed, I am seriously considering ditching my VM TV

It's getting to the point where my mum (who has been with NTL/VM since they first arrived in Peterborough) is now looking at Sky. When my dad passed away and we called VM to sort out the billing etc they weren't exactly helpful and to be honest she can get what she gets now for about £20 per month less through Sky.

I was tempted with Sky, as a couple of guys turned up at my door the night before last and said they can save me money.

So once they went through the figures it would save me about £20 a month, but when I asked them to check what broadband speed I should get he just said upto 20Mbps, I replied what a load of bulls danglies, I live 2.5K's from my local exchange so asked him to check properly.

After a quick phone call he said I could get up to 3.5Mbps down and wait for it 335Kbps up.

To which I replied "pick your coat up on the way out"

The price was tempting though.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know if and when the Padgate exchange in Warrington is going ADSL+

I've just registered/ordered a new Sky+HD box - i'm an existing customer so for me it'll cost £60 install, and extra £10 per month for the HD pack.

Box is free, and the install would have been free if i took the multiroom as well for another £10 per month. (but not bothered about multiroom, think i'll flog my original sky box on fleabay :) )

looking forward to watching 24 in HD on my new Samsung 40" telly woohoo!

The Sky + Boxes seem to be failing a lot atm. I have a mate who works for Sky support in Scotland and he said a lot have been failing. Since November last year my mum and dad have had 5 boxes as they are having picture breakup and sky are saying its down to the box overheating and not signal issues.

Weird, I've had my Pace Sky+ for about 2 years or more

---------- Post added at 11:17 ---------- Previous post was at 10:15 ----------

I'm on the Phone to Sky now, they're giving me a Sky+HD Box for self install as I've already got the relevant connections from my Sky+ box, so that's £30 for the box and no install charge, bargain, should be here next Monday :)

think its to do with pricing and availability of HDDs now. 35 quid will get you a good 500 gig hdd and 60 quid a 1tb drive. It would most likely cost sky the same to buy a 160 or 320 as to buy the 500 :). I will upgrade my box once its out of warranty

Yup. Got me that deal, really good deal. I canceled my TV with Virgin and of course, I was sold a phone line but didn't go down that route. I attempted for V+ but they wanted £49.99 for the box and £30 install fee. So decided to pass.. shame but hey..

I have Virgin telephone & cable but Sky + box. Will I be able to get one of these Sky + boxes or do I have to get a phone line with them too?

Graham M

No, you have to have it connected to a phone line, but it doesn' matter who from, mine is connected to a VM phoneline over a pair of DECT extenders

I've not got a phone line but I am considering, getting on from VM, I just checked the option " getting one within 6 weeks"

Graham M

If you don't have it connected to a phone line, you could be charged the full price of the box mind

As I understand it the 500GB box has 250GB for personal use and the other half reserved for Anytime and the 1500GB box has 1TB of personal use

500GB / 250GB
1.5TB / 1TB

Graham M
03-02-2010, 15:14
Yeah quite possibly, I think it's a shame that when you turn the Anytime off, you don't get access to the space that should be freed up, I never use it. It's still around 4 times the space available on my current box

Box has just arrived via Parcelforce, they said expect it Monday so I was rather surprised when it turned up :p: Anyways, just letting it warm up of its own accord so I don't get any condensation problems, then I'll get it setup, need to write down my recordings and series links off my old box first anyway!

Graham M
04-02-2010, 11:52
OK it's all working, BUT, I've programmed in all my recordings that I wrote down off my old box and the option to series link isn't coming up on 10 out of 12 or so of the series' I was able to link fine on my old box :\ Any ideas?

My install is booked for this Monday - so i'll be fitting some larger trunking to the skirting board this weekend :)

One other (silly) question - does the install include an HDMI cable - or do i have to supply one?

Just curious but if I called to get just a HD box would I face an extra monthly charge?

I have sky+ at the moment and just want any free HD and none that I have to pay extra for

webcrawler2050
06-02-2010, 13:10
You have to pay £10 for HD.

I've just had mine installed chuffed.

250GB for personal
250Gb for anytime

Engineer, said you don't need an engineer and if you don't get a landline just a £25 charge.

Wow, they have to split 50/50 storage for anytime?

Still, 250GB is still good.

well i got my sky+ installed without a hitch.... or so i thought.

Firstly i got a 160GB box :( would have preferred a bigger drive but never mind.

Secondly, i've just discovered that my EPG is not the new one but is still the old style one. From what i've seen, the new EPG started coming out early last year, so quite why my new box hasn't updated confuses me...

Is it true that i can't force the EPG to update?

Also, i don't have the box connected to the phone line, will this affect updates?

on in an hour!

you can have the sky+ HD box without the HD subscription but it will cost you £149 + install fee (thats what i was quoted as an existing full hit customer),
anyways, just took the advice off here and rang them, box is due to arrive in post on 15/02 and only a £30 charge, have subscribed to HD package,if you do it online you have to register and they get back to you with a date (this was as of last night when i nearly ordered it online).
seems like sky are taking a leaf out of VM's book with the self install ;)

We got a call earlier today from Sky offering us a free hd box with installation and free hd package for 12 months!

Obviously we took the deal and it's getting fitted on Tuesday but I was wondering if this was normal and if anyone else had been offered one for free?
