Hi, i'm being upgraded to 50Mb (from 20) in a couple of weeks and was wondering if the engineer will need a CD/DVD drive during the install as i noticed one is listed under the minimum computer requirements.

Thanks :)

OK cool, my dvd drive broke ages ago and haven't felt the need to replace it as we stream everything.

Thanks :)

I think the only thing that requires a cd drive is the wireless N USB adapter, if you are not using this then you don't.

You are better off just plugging into the router with an ethernet cable to make the best use of the 50meg. If you are using the internet wirelessly just for browsing then just use the wireless built into the computer (if it has it).

even that doesn't need one just plug n play

No if you are only upgrading there is no CD needed.

you will need a cd drive to turn the wireless encryption on or you could just run open.

Or you can simply log in to the router and set it up yourself. Its much easier.

Thanks for the replies. All installed (50Mb/router) with no need for the CD :D

Have you set the security on the router, link if required HERE (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/34916465-post3.html)

I have yes (WPA2) and also set up MAC filtering and hidden the ssid. Thanks though :)

Very impressed with the connection so far, have tried a few legal torrents (open office, ubuntu) and have maxed out or there abouts. Compared my modem lvls to the ones in the sticky and all seems OK except the Downstream Lvls are right on the limit (high 5's) but the connection is fine so can't grumble.

Well done VM :tu:
