I always use the Gamefiles site on a call and then get it checked with my 2nd line who log into the uBR to double check and in most cases confirm similar figures unless the is high utilisation.

You would be surprised how many calls because they checked on a speedtest site and when we check they are way out.

good :) as ive always voiced speedtests are a waste of time

for example Broadbandmax just got me about right 3 times on the trot whereas cable forums just measured me 42meg then 14 meg then 24 meg lol

All I do if they say the gamefiles site is inaccurate is call 2nd line get the customer to start a download then they check the speed while checking the bandwidth and we then inform the customer.

I had one guy getting 45/48Mb when tested wanting to cancel because it was not the 5p0Mb he was paying for.:D

Thanks for that link. I just tried the Battlefield 2 download and was getting a file transfer rate between 2.0 and 2.0mbps on my 20meg connection.

Well if you don't know then neither do we ;) But if you do try it again please note the capitalisation of the speed reading :p:

If i use the Speedtest (<50M ) function at the top of this page i get thisTest 1: 1024K took 525 ms = 1950.5 KB/sec, approx 16072 Kbps, 15.7 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 689 ms = 1486.2 KB/sec, approx 12246 Kbps, 11.96 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 1163 ms = 880.5 KB/sec, approx 7255 Kbps, 7.08 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 1306 ms = 1568.1 KB/sec, approx 12921 Kbps, 12.62 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 12124 Kbps, 11.84 Mbps

Remember that a speed test is only as good as the link from your modem to the speed test servers, hence the best way is to download from a few different sources at the same time and add them up, that way you remove the possible bottleneck that a single connection might have

Well, just saw this thread and was about to post a new topic but.....

I'm in Manchester and normally Newsleecher maxes out showing 2.33MB/S as I'm on 20Mb. I set off some downloading last night (or rather early this morning) and it was showing current speed as 4.36 MB/s.

I thought it was knackered so I shut it down and restarted NL. This time it maxed out showing 4.51 MB/s where I left it and went to bed!

What's going on?
