Hi,

Ive recently moved. (only about 1/4 mile down the road)

In my old address i got a consistant 19mb/s +

Now with my new installation i get between 4mb/s and 16 mb/s yes it varies that much!

Below are a few tests ive done but unfortunatly i cant reproduce the lower end of the scale what i was experiencing. (but still not great!!)

I know these are not the worst test results on the forum but its still bugging me all the same!

Below are my modem levels at present.......

Cable Modem Downstream
Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 0
Downstream Frequency : 402750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 5360.537 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4
Downstream Receive Power Level : 1.0 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 40.0 dB

Cable Modem Upstream
Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Frequency : 22000000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 46.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

I have tried ringing VM 3 times and each time something goes wrong and i get cut off! So i feel like im on my own with this one.

oh yes, the modem is hard wired and using windows 7

Any help would be great.

Your levels are fine, you might want to try posting on newsgroups.

I'm on 20 Mbps - quite satisfied with it too.

What you've posted is quite typical for me (perhaps even better) so I think you've not got a problem. Your modem stats are exemplary.

Why would ΒΌ mile down the road make a difference? Could be:

- Different street box
- Different number of houses connected to the street box
- Different usage profile

If you're in the same street box, then you prolly go through an additional amplifier - which may be imperfect. That sort of thing.

If possible ring as soon after 0800 in the morning as possible.

I find that the thinkbroadband speed test is very variable. While not perfect I generally find www.speedtest.net is more accurate.

You should also avoid unreliable speedtest sites. Even better test with a few known good ones.

ThinkBroadband is currently telling me my 20Mb speed is 8.7Mbit/s and 12.2Mbit/s in back to back tests which is woefully inaccurate. The notoriously hit and miss Speedtest.Net is showing my speed at 18.9Mbit/s and 10.75Mbit/s in back to back tests to the same server (it really is that unreliable for me). BBMAX correctly shows my speed at 19.3Mbit/s then 19.5Mbit/s. Speed.IO also correctly shows my speed at 18.6Mbit/s then 18.9Mbit/s.
