What did people think of this week's episode, "The Gift"?

After, IMO, a drop in quality since the Pilot, I think this was much better than the last few episodes.

I really was expecting that Agent to be saved from suicide at the last minute (either that, or he would, by some freakish & ironic situation, actually land on Celia after jumping, breaking his fall & killing her... ;) ), so I was quite surprised that he *did* actually die. Now we know that the future is not fixed, the things that people saw in their FlashForwards *can* be prevented.

I'm enjoying it. Looking at the ratings though, it's not doing so well. So hopefully it improves a lot. The last 2 weeks have been the lowest it's had. I've just had a look at the ratings for each episode and it's certainly getting lower ratings each week which is a shame.

When I first started to watch this I wasnt enammered with the first 2 episodes. After reading the book and discovering the simularities end at the title I thought it was going to be a total waste of bandwidth. But I perservered and I am totally immersed in flashforward.

This is not set to return in the US until March 4th 2010.

That's pathetic!

Well since the ratings are getting lower for every episode, ABC has to think about what to do.

We might not have to wait that long. If the genius arrogant genius bloke is right we only have to wait a couple of weeks for the LHC to do its stuff.

Well since the ratings are getting lower for every episode, ABC has to think about what to do.

Its partly because ABC doesnt want to have to compete with the 2010 Winter Olympics (on in February on NBC).

Yup. V (also ABC) isn't back on either until after the Winter Olympics.

The second half of season 1 starts up on ABC on Thursday 18th March, with episode 11 "Revelation Zero (Part 1)".

Paul

They are actually showing 11 & 12 (Revelation Zero Part 1 & Part 2).

It was a pretty good first hour and an excellent second hour. It actually gives us quite a few answers!

did not expect that....

I found it annoying.

Janice is IMO one of the few likeable characters. And now they've gone all "24" & done a "mole twist".

I'd really like more time on the main plot, & less time on Cancer Doctor, Japanese Girl, & Cancer Doctor's Wannabe Doctor Friend.

I believe this new episode showed the reason that the exec producers said the show could go on for 6 seasons. Although we all know it won't last that long. Am I the only one who thinks that the show is improving?

Its confusing

Nope. The last few eps have been really good - its like its suddenly got going - unfortunately its improved far too late to save it from the chop. Shame really.

I was reading somewhere its doing well everywhere apart from the US and might still get another season as its pretty cheap to make compared to other shows.

Fingers crossed as I think its pretty good.

EDIT: Found it.

Yup. It has been getting better, but it's too late now I think...

Hmm. Very doubtful, IMO.

That article was from before it returned after its stupidly long hiatus... and the ratings in the US have been falling & falling week by week... The ratings weren't too hot before the break either, but now they're truly awful.

Highly unlikely it will be renewed, even with international success.

On Ausiello's Renewal scorecard it is now down as "Now a long shot.".

I did like this week's episode... the series is definitely at its best when it concentrates on the actual main story, rather than boring & pointless filler such as Cancer Doctor's search for Japanese Girl, etc. I want to know WTF is going on with the blackout etc., not whether some guy is gonna meet some girl in a sushi restaurant.

I hope that the producers admit to themselves that it is unlikely to have a second season, & actually tie the whole thing up properly by the end. I really hate it when one-season shows end on cliffhangers.

The long hiatus killed interest for me. I had it V+'d for the Thursday late night repeats on Five. Five have clearly lost faith in Flashforward as they suddenly stopped the repeats. So now I've realised I've missed at least last weeks and tonights ep, that's it, the faint interest I had in this has expired.

Top tip to the TV companies, if you want an audience, schedule your programmes in a consistent manner.

I think every Monday at 9pm is pretty consistant ;)

Just killing the repeat showing isn't consistent ;)

AFAIK, the only time international sales have saved a show from the axe is with Baywatch. This was only saved because LWT took over a lot of the production costs.

I thought 24 was only renewed for a 2nd season because of international ratings?

Another good one this week. And good to find out that Janice isn't a villain after all!

Nice to see Doctor Baltar again.

Yeah. Can't wait for next week which is written by the man himself, Robert J. Sawyer.

Yeah CIA double agent eh, nice twist. I like how eveything is unpredictable in the show, one of my favourite shows this year.

It boggles my mind it gets bad ratings in the U.S, guess they are too stupid for shows like this and prefer watching **** like Survivor, Dancing with the Stars and American Idol.

And it seems it's rumoured that good overseas sales and low production costs will not save this show either..

The problem is that Hollywood (and the media in general) is scared to take chances now. As soon as something doesn't do well, it's dropped. Had it been made now, I don't think Star Trek: The Next Generation would have made it past season 1 or 2, which would have been a shame as the show didn't really hit it's stride until the third season (that's not to say there weren't good stories in 1 and 2).

I think that FF did slow down a little too much in the middle, and veered in to "Lost" territory a little with the secret groups up to no good idea. But, in the last few eps, it's really picked up.

Paul

Well, with one ep left to go - it seems all the main characters flash forwards are not going to happen as seen.

cimt
28-05-2010, 11:32
Urm, yeah. OK. What to say about it? Hmmm... Could they of not of done a Life on Mars US and had the ending delayed so that it didn't end like that? Atleast with LoM US you got an ending.

Tezcatlipoca
28-05-2010, 22:43
As a season finale, I think it was very good.

As a series finale, I think it was arse. Couldn't the writers/producers have done better than that? The writing's been on the wall for ages regarding the show's (lack of a) future, you'd think they could have given us a better ending than that.

cimt
28-05-2010, 22:48
I seem to remember reading somewhere that there was 2 versions of the final episode. One for if it was cancelled, and one for if it was renewed. Am I getting my shows mixed up or was that an ending for a show that expected to come back next year?

Tezcatlipoca
28-05-2010, 23:28
Yeah, didn't seem like an ending for something which knew it was over!

Paul
31-05-2010, 15:49
Shame it faltered fatally in the middle - it turned out to be quite good, and finished well for the (now never to happen) second series.
