hi all,

first post, google brought me here :)

i'm on 50 meg aswell. I noticed that when downloading from news servers (giganews)
speed flactuates and sometimes connection re-sets to 0..

because i couldnt get any signal at all in the 2nd box in bedroom i bought from ebay the Konig Cable TV/Modem Signal Amplifier Virgin Media/NTL,*the Yellow brick*--(- Freq. range forward: 86 - 862 MHz
- Return path: 5 - 65 MHz (Passive)
- Gain forward: 30 dB
- Gain control forward: 0~18 dB (adjustable)
- Slope control: 0~18 dB (adjustable)
- Noise figure: max. 7 dB)
i havent played with the slopes, they all at max as default.. as a result i get full signal on my bedroom's box 20 meters away, but picture freezes on my main one in living room which is closest to the main feed 1 meter away..
i have the main cable coming from outside going into this amplifier then into the big splitter that feeds my main box in living room, modem, and 2nd box in bedroom..

no attentuators are being used at all, i dont mind bying them if needed so i can sort the signal out for my main box and the modem.. by the way i dont use a router, going straight from modem to my 1000 gigabit lan port on my vista desktop..

i have no idea how to check the power levels and where to start, so can someone please advice me in the right direction..

cheers
kannanni

Your downstream power levels are possibly the highest I've ever seen.

on in an hour!

I am amazed that you are online and you need an engineer so call the dedicated 50Mb line on 0800 052 0431.

If you get no joy tonight call tomorrow after 0800 and you will get an engineer booked out to adjust that.

hi guys,

thnx for your feedback,

i have now totally disconnected the amplifier and power levels went down to 8..
just bought a Konig variable attenuator from e-bay to see if i can go a bit more lower.. anyway, line seems much more stable atmo.. test downloaded 16 gig nzb last night from giganews, and not a single drop or slowdown.. hitting 6.2mb constantly.. thnx a lot for the advice m8.. the amplifier is now resting in peace in my rubbish bin..
