I have 1 pc connected via ethernet to a NTL:250 Modem 10MB link - which works fine.
I need to connect more devices to the internet so i bought a 5 port, 3Com gigbit switch.
I connected everything up but can only get 1 device connected to the internet at any one time (the one that powers up first), and not all devices together.

Is the NTL modem the cause of the problem?
Tried restarting everything numerous times.

Everything you connect to the internet requires an IP. Virgin only issue one IP per account. If you want to connect multiple devices, you will need a router (the switch you have bought will not do the job).

Try something like the Linksys WRT54G2 (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146066). Please note, you should avoid any ADSL routers.
