Hello,

I am a new 50mb XXL customer, the service is great but the downloads seem to be unreliable, my download speeds will fluctuate between 1.5mb to 2.4mb from American sites.

from gamefiles.virginmedia.com when I start downloading it starts at 800kb then slowly works up to 4.7-4.9mb a second on one file.

Speedtest and Thinkbroadband both give me 33mb down, and 1.65mb upload. I was reading the signal levels post and I believe my upload db is too high, it says that 58 and over would be causing issues and mine is 57.

Here are the exact readings from my Modem. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Also, several Virgin Media customers are reporting problems playing the new game "Aion" and only in that game alone, we are all getting d/c'd within 1-5 minutes very consistently.

Any help would be appreciated!

Also, my speedtest and thinkbroadband tests are fluctuating a lot...

Im getting between 20mb to 35mb, once I got 48mb...

My speeds results on both of those sites is similar to yours, try downloading 4 large files from this site and check the combined speed. see what you get.

i get 20 - 35 on speedtest.net but when downloading from the site above i get 45 - 49mb.

Speedtest and Thinkbroadband both give me 33mb down, and 1.65mb upload.

I have 50Mb, but never achieve anywhere near that. I tried the thinkbroadband speed test you mentioned, my speed was 12.6mb. Here's the link to my test results..

I've had engineers try various things, but it doesn't make much difference. I now just put up with it as it's better than using BT phones lines, which I'd only achieve 4mb according to line tests. Before upgrading to 50Mb, I was previously on 20Mb, but the connection speed was even slower.

I think these correctable/uncorrectable codewords must mean something. You only have a few correctable codewords compared to mine, and also you are getting 4 columns of info, but my modem is only giving 3 columns of info.

As you can see from my modem info, I have thousands more correctable codewords than you do, but only 3 columns of info.

Personally, I think you are doing well to achieve 30mb.

having the same problems as you.

May I suggest creating a post on the following virgin media forum

The more ppl that complain the better!

If you complain based on evidence of a speedtest you are unlikely to get anywhere.

The only way to test your download is to download . Personally I use a multi threaded download manager susch as DAP ( which is free) I use reget and set it up with 20 connections. Then find a good server download a large file and see what speed to acheive.

I get full speeds this way but on the speed tests mentioned 11 meg

Im using newsgroups which is a premium service that you subscribe to and the speeds are up and down more times than a newly weds knickers!

megatf - your upstream power is irregular and too high and a tech visit should be done to resolve it.

Wonnov - nothing to indicate issues on your numbers there, also you didn't mention how long the modem had been running for. If it accumulated those few thousand FECs over the course of several weeks that's not an issue.

Perhaps it's Virgin cynically trying to persuade customers to stop downloading so much Blu Ray from dodgy 3rd parties :D

Either way your issues are nothing to do with the OP's. I suspect yours relate to a modem firmware problem as the symptoms are somewhat similar to an older issue where speeds would drop after a time.

Broadbandings not sure if you work for vm or not but if thats the issue u think it is can you not speak to the engineers for me?

The modem has been replacved twice so surely ive got a working one now?
