Guys.

This is my first post so hello everyone!

I'm at the end of my tether with Virgin Media I think (that's if they are the problem here). Basically when I play PES2009 on PS3 I always suffer lag problems and therefore my opponent always seems to have an advantage.

Over the last year I've tried quite a lot of things to try an improve the situation such as: -

- TCP/IP Optimizer - with optimised settings
- Changing Wireless Router Settings: -
- (Belkin Pre-N) ACK settings, Channel, QOS to ON, uPnP on, Protected mode on or off, NAT on, put the PS3 in DMZ, tried forwarding all the correct ports with a static route to the - PS3, switched the internal firewall off.
- Switched all other pc's off in the network
- Brought a Linksys 110 wireless router and tryed that out but it made the situation worse.
- Used Open DNS servers
- hardwired the PS3 directly to the wireless router.
- switched off my windows firewalls (including zonealarm)
- Brought a linksys OV-200 Network Optimizer - no improvement
- Tried changing the frequncy channel of the modem???

And I'm still having lag problems - Any other suggestions?

P.S The situation actually has got worse in the last couple of weeks - and VM technical support tell me that there is no civils or work closeby to where I live (Chiswick). They also tell me that I'm not currently subject to traffic shaping, and VM also state that no ports are being blocked currently????

Can you help?
Yours stressed.

Hi Ash,

Could you please navigate to http://192.168.100.1 and log in with the username root and the password root and post everything from the upstream page and the downstream page. Then post ping results and tracert results to bbc.co.uk. If your not sure how to do this see steps 4 and 5 on this page http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/94/33653957-simple-self-test-steps-will-assist.html#post34852254.

Thanks,
Ben :)

Your power levels are fine so the issue is elsewhere. Ping and tracert please :)

He's stated wired to the router if you see original post. Ash have you tried wired directly to the modem?

Trying to open a cmd in RUN, but doesn't seem to work correctly. ie. the black screen puts me into c: directory

Regards to wired directly to the modem - couldn't get it to work, had to go via the bridge of the wireless router.

Yeah you just type 'ping bbc.co.uk' without the quotes and press enter and 'tracert bbc.co.uk' without the quotes and press enter.

You have to switch off modem when switching devices and then switch it back on.

Have tried again...I get the cmd module running when I type in the RUN either ping or tracert www.bbc.co.uk

It runs through the test but then the cmd screen exits automatically - so I have no time to react? and copy them.

It's because you're typing it into the run box.

1. Press Windows + R to open a run box
2. Type cmd and click OK
3. In the black windows type tracert bbc.co.uk and press enter

In fact that's only on the second set, the first and third are fine which shows there are no issues 'locally'. I think a call to Virgin on 151 from a Virgin phone or 08454541111 from any other phone is required to do tests on your connection. Next time your on PS3 connect directly to modem to see if this sorts it but you will have to turn the modem off and on in order for it to recognise the PS3

There's definitely an issue then. Ring or post on newsgroups.

Post what modem you have and your power levels from your config pages of your modem. The should be a sticker on the bottom saying what model.

If using an Ambit modem please click here
http://root:root@192.168.100.1/CmOpConfig.asp

If using any other modem click here

What I want you to post is the Downstream power levels including the SNR and the Upstream power levels for me thanks.

DO NOT POST YOUR MAC ADDRESS OR SERIAL NUMBER

Its the PS3 network adapters. They are crap, although VM handling of P2P traffic and low upload speed may also have an impact.
I have VM 20MB and it performs great on my PC and Laptop. If I test ping times on pingtest.net I always get "A" rating from everything except the PS3 which usually gets a "C". I have tried wired and wireless, direct to cable modem and via router and also took the PS3 back to the shop and got a replacement which is the same.
Most games now e.g MW2 use P2P host-based model with no dedicated servers. Not sure about PES, but I imagine its the same.
I'm in the process of getting 50MB in the hope that better upload speed improves things but the PS3 will still be a bottleneck I think.

That's because PES 2009 is not for online gaming. The PES team have never got online gaming right for the PS3. PES 2010 is somewhat better, but still not brilliant.

I've been on the PES forums, and it's the same for everyone else, regarding PES 2009.
