Over the past few weeks I've noticed that my downstream power levels having been slowly increasing from my normal value of around 0 to now +7.5. A long with daily modem config name changes (don't know if it sheds some light on to what’s happening or not). I haven't seen any noticeable downturn in download speeds but I have noticed erratic latency creeping back in peak times, which bugs me because gaming is my main use for the connection.

Is it worth getting in contact with newsgroup support to arrange a tech visit to decrease to downstream stream power level or not?

Rest of the modem stats:

Downstream Channel:
Downstream Status Operational
Channel ID 4
Downstream Frequency 331000000 Hz
Modulation 256QAM
Bit Rate 20480000 bits/sec
Power Level 7.5 dBmV
Signal to Noise Ratio 40.8 dB

Upstream Channel:
Upstream Status Operational
Channel ID 2
Upstream Frequency 25800000 Hz
Modulation 16QAM
Bit Rate 768000 bits/sec
Power Level 46.0 dBmV

At that power level, you probably should call a tech
(150 from virgin phone)

That power level is fine upto 12db.

It's a little high but within specs so I think you need to ring tech support so they can run checks on your connection. Call 150 from a Virgin phone it's absolutely free or 08454541111 from any other phone.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I had read the `Cable Modem Signal Levels' thread and the note at the bottom does say -6dBmV to +15dBmV with a recommended SNR of 33dB for 256QAM modulation. I've asked on newsgroup support just to check and I'm waiting their response.

Cheers

Your power levels are within spec and any issue will either be network side or with your equipment.

At those levels, it is unlikely they will do anything with those power levels. Mine went as high as -10dBmV and tech said that was fine for my modem
