50mb broadband getting reduced in price.

From 1st September Virgin Media will reduce the monthly cost of its 50Mb service for new and existing customers to £28, when taken with a phone line, or £38 if taken as a sole product.

Ahh thought it was all the packages not just 50mb as it would be silly to pay same for 20mb service than 50.

Don't you lose loyalty discounts by upgrading?

I'm paying around £50 for the following services and get my XL TV for a few £, so would i lose my TV loyalty discount and end up paying far more?

Phone M £11
XL BB £37
XL TV £ couple of quid after discounts.

Is it just 50Mb that is coming down? As I've just went from 20Mb to 10Mb to save £12pm

AFAICT, the 50Mbit base price goes from £52 to £45, nothing else was affected on my bill.

BenMcr
21-08-2009, 14:07
Yup, because if you have just XXL and phone you get a £17 discount. so take that off £52 gives you £35. Take it off £45 gives you £28 ;)

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but why am I so daft that I'd start with the sentence 'I'm sure this question has been asked before' without noticing the Search button at the top of the page?

In the competitive communication world, information changes rapidly like prices.

I suppose for some like me the search button does not explain the Virgin Media policy that cuts the price on the 50Mb service to the point so that its cheaper than the cost of the 20Mb service, but doesn't reduce the price of the 20Mb service.

Why is there no mention of a new VIP bundle that incorporates the 50Mb service? On this evidence, it would be less than the existing VIP packages and provide a faster service.

It seems that Virgin Media is covering itself both ways.If enough people take up the 50Mb offer all well and good, but if they don't they are still going to have a stable income from the 20Mb service.

I would be happy to have my existing VIP package upgraded to 50Mb ( instead of the current 20Mb) at a cheaper cost so long as it is a reliable service, but comments on the forum lead me to think that the 50Mb service still has teething problems.

Maybe existing 50Mb users could report their location and quality of service to give potential 50Mb users the opportunity to consider whether it is worth upgrading.

It's not cheaper - its £8 more than XL

just got my latest bill, and something doesn't look right

previous bill showed :

Telephone Line Rental 11 August - 10 September £11.00
Talk Unlimited 11 August - 10 September £7.95
Phone, TV & Broadband Saving 11 August - 10 September £-25.95
TV Size: X L 11 August - 10 September £23.00
XXL 50Mb Broadband 11 August - 10 September £52.00

latest bill is

Telephone Line Rental 11 September - 10 October £11.00
Talk Unlimited 11 September - 10 October £7.95
Phone, TV & Broadband Saving 11 September - 10 October £-20.95
TV Size: X L 11 September - 10 October £23.00
XXL 50Mb Broadband 11 September - 10 October £45.00

so I've lost £ 5 on my bundle saving , and saved £ 7 on broadband - a net gain of £ 2

is that right?

BenMcr
27-08-2009, 14:05
Yes. you already got £5 off the previous price - XXL was £15 more than XL but you were only paying £10 more

Now they've made it £8 more than XL for all customers so they only need to adjust your bill by £2

thanks - I think I get it - I was thinking I'd get about £ 20 reduction.

Would the bundle discount be lost if I got rid of the TV package? (basic would be good enough for me)

BenMcr

Yes it would - but you may be able to agree a new bundle deal

The 50Mb price reduction isn't a price drop it's a special offer for new customers isn't from 1st december, although I rung up last thrusday and got it for the £8 price reduction from 1st sept.

Stop talking rubbish.

I am not talking rubbish about getting the new price from 1st sept but I have just asked VM on twitter and they told me that it isn't a price reduction but a tier price reduction

BenMcr
27-08-2009, 17:46
What they said (http://twitter.com/VIrginmedia) was

'@SexBombAF (http://twitter.com/SexBombAF) It's a tier price reduction - not a special offer, and applies to all customers (existing and new). Hope that helps. AA'

How you get 'it IS a special offer' out of that is beyond me

BomberAF

yes after me thinking it was a special offer when you said I was avin a laugh i twiited them and that is what they said, the woman on phone said it wsa special offer

Yeah but your bill starts in August so it wont include much of sept yet.

The only person in the whole of VM who seems to understand the new pricing is BenMcr who has said time and time again the new pricing (apart from the initial 3-month discount) applies to everyone. How he can actually get that through to his colleagues is another issue.
