Hi to All

Just like to say at the outset my skills are very limited in this area, but especially
when it comes to technical jargon, so try and keep it simple guys.

Anyway my problem at the moment is slow download speeds (like a lot of others),
I've been upgraded from 2-10 Meg (about 6weeks ago), and in that time, I've had
one period, when my jaw dropped (got between 600-700K) for about half an hour,
yesterday got between 200-300K for about 20minutes, then went down to below
80K until about 9.30, when it proceeded to drop to below 50K the following shows
this better,

NetWorx Hourly Rates
--------------------

Date TimeAvg DL RateAvg UL Rate DL Volume UL Volume Total

18/08/20098:00 - 8:59 30.3 KB/s 24.9 KB/s 107 MB 87.6 MB 194 MB
18/08/20097:00 - 7:59 38.2 KB/s 24.9 KB/s 134 MB 87.5 MB 222 MB
18/08/20091:00 - 1:59 2.67 KB/s 5.92 KB/s 9.38 MB 20.8 MB 30.2 MB
18/08/20090:00 - 0:59 13.0 KB/s 24.7 KB/s 45.5 MB 86.9 MB 132 MB
17/08/200923:00 - 23:59 2.43 KB/s 6.19 KB/s 8.54 MB 21.8 MB 30.3 MB

so I got in touch with Tech Support twice, before I was told there is a problem in
my area, but I had already checked the service status on the VM website, it showed
no issues in my area (cr0) so I don't know what to believe.

I've also obtained these figures are they any good?

Downstream Channel
The data shown in the table below provides information about the signal coming from the network to your cable modem.

Downstream Status
Operational
Channel ID
4
Downstream Frequency
331000000 Hz
Modulation
256QAM
Bit Rate
10242000 bits/sec
Power Level
6.1 dBmV
Signal to Noise Ratio
41.8 dB

Upstream Channel
The data shown in the table below provides information about the signal being transmitted to the network from your cable modem.

Upstream Status
Operational
Channel ID
4
Upstream Frequency
29200000 Hz
Modulation
16QAM
Bit Rate
514000 bits/sec
Power Level
46.0dBmV

Finally my modem is connected directly to my PC (at all times).

Thanks;)

:welcome:,

Your downstream power level looks a little high to me which may be causing speed issues. A tech would need to adjust this level.

Ben :)

Thanks for replying Ben

As I mentioned I've already contacted Tech Support, and after them telling me the
problem is likely to last until the 28th but, then finding out there are no issues in
my area, I don't really have grounds, to ask for a tech to make any adjustments, it's
that feeling when you know something's wrong, but cant prove it (frustration)
springs to mind.

I mentioned about compensation to the man from far away places, but he said the
earliest I could make a claim, was the 21st the trouble is, this seems to have been
going on for most of the time, since the upgrade (maybe there's a connection) excuse
the pun, what we need is some alternative independent means, of checking these
problems out when they happen (that would be nice).

Down off the soap box.

Thanks
ade;)

Running some more tests and providing them here and to the tech would give you more evidence.

PS. I'm starting to get a feeling about this and I think it's to do with
P2P?
