Not sure you can officially downgrade anymore...

But if you could then you'd end up on a 10Mb which is a lot more restricted by STM..

I reckon you are paying a little too much. The bundle price for broadband L, TV XL and phone L is £38.45. For these three, you are paying £62.45 less discount £22.70, giving £39.75. So, your overpayment is £1.30 per month.

The trouble is that when VM reduces its bundle prices, they don't reduce existing customers' prices unless you call and ask for the reduction. Note that any reduction means a new 12-month contract.

Not sure you can officially downgrade anymore...No you can't

I reckon you are paying a little too much.No he isn't

The bundle price for broadband L, TV XL and phone L is £38.45.If you are taking the price off the website you are forgetting to add the £11 phoneline rental - so that price is in fact £49.45

For these three, you are paying £62.45 less discount £22.70, giving £39.75. So, your overpayment is £1.30 per month. So he is in fact SAVING about £10 a month

Yes, you are right. It's that stupid website which shows the Broadband, TV and Phone bundle but gives prices only for Broadband and TV. It is marketing at its most cynical.

If I go to the 'Build your own bundle' page and pick XL tv, L BB and L Phone I get

What you pay
£38.45 a month*

12 month contract

*When you take a Virgin phone line for £11 a month

Seems to mention the phone to me

So let me get this right. VM advertises a bundle but gives part of the bundle price in a big red font size, with the phone line price shown separately in a smaller font size. The only reason to do this is to make people think that the bundle costs £11 per month less.

It would be like a supplier advertising a PC with screen and speakers, only that the headline price excludes the screen!

I am disappointed that you should defend this shabby practice. As consumers, we should always have the unavoidable costs of what we are buying quoted upfront.

Yes I am defending it.

When ntl used to quote the whole price including the phoneline rental eg '3 for £30' everyone used to compare it against other providers such as Sky who excluded the cost of a BT line. They then went 'well ntl are more expensive than Sky, I'll go to Sky'

As for full costs I've attached a screen shot of the basket you get presented before you commit to purchasing - which includes the cost of the line rental in the total. It also gives the Grand Total in Big BOLD writing to make sure you know how much it will cost

So again, seems quite clear to me

Thanks all,
I thought I could go down to m and loose pc guard. However I realized that if I did try to move to m that I would end up paying more for my mobile broadband.

I don't agree with the practice but its smart marketing on Virgin's part.

But if VM can come clean about misleading broadband speeds (see http://www.webuser.co.uk/news/287378.html?aff=rss), then why not also be honest about pricing.

Because why should Virgin show a price £11 higher on their adverts than their competitors?

With the competitors you still need a BT phoneline (or pay for an LLU line) but I don;t here people moaning about that..
