Hi chaps,
Need a bit of help on setting up Virgin (wireless) broadband for my father.
He`s got the TV, phone & broadband (media?) package and can`t get any access to the net.
He`s getting message of "error 678" when trying to connect.

It`s a fresh install of Virgin and he`s yet to be able to connect.
I thought it should be instant, rather than dialing up?

Any help with what should be connected (modem, router and cables) would be a great help.
The router is showing up with good reception and a little gold star next to it.

I don`t have wireless or Virgin as you can probably tell

Thank`s.

Cheers for fast reply.
What should he have (hardware wise) connected from his laptop - which I forgot to mention :dozey:

If he's using wireless it should be his inbuilt wireless adaptor.

Does the router connect to the phone line via a filter?
Or is the router straight into a Virgin wall socket?
Also, is a modem needed?

Thank`s.

Should have a modem plugged into the wall socket, wireless router connected to the modem.

You have AVG Anti-Virus installed on the computer? I think that error corresponds to the AVG Toolbar.
Tools > Toolbars > untick AVG Toolbar and apply.

Hi,
AVG was removed, but as you say the toolbar.
Traces must be left of AVG.
Will try that.
Thank`s.
