from 10 to 20mb now that the prices have dropped.
It seems that all is not quite so black and white with the prices though.

I'm currently paying £25 a month for 10mb and saw that 20mb was now £20.

I've just got off the phone and was told that as I had such a good loyalty discount that it would cost me £12 a month to increase to 20mb instead of a £5 reduction.

She also said that I was getting my BB for practically nothing.
Yes I am, but they gave me the discount when I had a query about VIP services last year - when they reduced the cost of my service and gave me free phone calls. So I paid the extra £7 at that time to go to L BB.

I thought this time they might reduce the cost of 20mb BB by a fiver and offset that by reducing my loyalty discount by a fiver also.

But the girl was adamant.
Originally she said it would would cost me £37 for 20mb and I would lose all of my loyalty discounts, then she changed her mind and then said it would cost an extra £12.

Do you think it's worth me trying again?

This is what my current cost is

The XL isn't going to show on your bill as 20GBP/month it will show as 35, it is then reduced if you take a phone line.

Your L bill seems a bit out of whack given L is the one that's 20GBP/month.

XL will cost you more though, it should be 10GBP a month more, the 12GBP increase you had mentioned to you was incorrect, it's 10.

Lemme show you my goodness as an example:

Description Date/period Amount
Telephone Line Rental 02 July - 01 August £11.00
Talk International 02 July - 01 August £1.50
Talk Unlimited 02 July - 01 August £7.95
Phone, Bband XL & TV Discount 02 July - 01 August £-17.00
XXL 50Mb Broadband 02 July - 01 August £52.00
T V Size: M 02 July - 01 August £0.00

I pay 35GBP for my XXL service, it shows on bill as 52GBP, same as the standalone price, then is taken down to the correct price by the 17GBP discount.

Not sure what you mean about my L being out of whack.
You mean my L BB?
It was £18 per month for M BB, then I was offered the loyalty discount etc., so paid an extra £7 making it £25, which was the price then for L BB. (15 months ago).

Well, that's an arguable point - £35 for XXL. I make that £38.60 for your XXL having apportioned your discount for the telephone rental. Reasonable value all the same, though, IMHO.

You've got to take into account the bundle discounts though because it appears as £25 on everyones bill but then the bundle discounts bring it down to the advertised price (or they should do anyway).

The 35GBP was as listed on the VM website. Telco rental is not subject to discount and I have no TV package payable. If you wish to argue this point recommend you speak with Virgin themselves.

I had the same speil, moiraf100. Apparently I was "on the best deal" and would be paying more should I upgrade to 20mb. After hanging up on India, I tried retentions and they gave me an awesome deal (pretty much what new customers get on the website) :)

Try retentions.

Actually that's an interesting point. Your bill clearly states:

Phone, Bband XL & TV Discount 02 July - 01 August £-17.00

The VM web site is as you point out. So there's a contradiction somewhere.

Whatever though, you're either paying £35 for broadband and £11 for the phone or £38.60 for broadband and £7.40 for the phone. It comes to the same thing.

Why not pay £3 more and get the 50Mb service that makes more sense

On the phone at the moment.
Best price is £49.20 for XL services, that includes a £28.75 ongoing loyalty discount.
How does that sound?

From post 1 it seems moiraf100 is on XL phone, M TV, L BB and pays £44.45 per month

I, too, came down from VIP (because I could not afford it) but now have M phone, XL TV (with V+) and L BB and pay a similar amount (£44.04)

In June I received a letter from VM offering me 20Mb broadband for an extra £6 per month. I did not take this up and do not know if it still applies. The free number to ring is 0800 953 1473

If that includes your XL TV and the phone, it looks good to me.

I've just checked the website, and the XL package is £47 + £11 for the phone.
So I'm really only getting a £9 discount, is that right?
So it's a deal, but not a huge deal then, I wonder where the £28+ loyalty discount came in?

Which begs the question of why it was worth mentioning in the first place ;) Zero discount on the phone line, in any event website specifically states XXL BB = 35GBP when you take the phone line @ 11. Pretty clear language, pay 11 for phone line and enjoy discount on the internet service.
