along with another load of bits. continually upgraded over the past 6 years.

head gasket let go at the scooby shoot out in 07. i coasted over the quarter mile line in 11.20s @ 135mph. so it was engine out time when i got back home.

while the engine was out I decided to buy some new bits for a bit more power. So after saving for a long time i purchased a new turbocharger.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v605/bigsinky/subaru/new%20mods/DSC00085.jpg

this bespoke turbocharger is a bit bigger than the 300bhp Subaru STi turbocharger.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v605/bigsinky/subaru/new%20mods/DSC00086.jpg

the block was sent away to have 14mm ARP head studs drilled and to have the block modified with better oil galleries. new cylinder heads that have been polished and ported where bought along with new valves and higher profile cams.

decided to change the ecu from a Motec M48 Pro to a Solaris. this new ECU is much more programmable and has a load of other functions that that while the Motec can do, the solaris make it alot easier.

the car has been stripped of all seats and 2 x Sparco EVO3 seats with harnesses are going in. these seats are so light saving probably 40Kg.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v605/bigsinky/subaru/new%20mods/evo3seats.jpg

Subaru suspension is very heavy as well, about 20kg per corner. New AST coilovers have saved a load of weight. Sportline2 with 12 adjustable settings.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v605/bigsinky/subaru/new%20mods/sportline.jpg

hopefully is won't be too long before the car is back out in competition again. With the combination of more power and a weight reduction of about 100KG I hope to get into the 10s soon.

You can imagine the mods collective gasping upon seeing this thread title....

Looking good though, how much have you spent on it?

Dunno, never really thought about it. this is the 4th incarnation of the engine. always manage to move my old bits on so reducing the price a bit. suffice to say i will never get my money back on it, but it's very fast and great fun when you you get 4 - 5 weekends away at Elvington , Santapod, Crail, Shakespeare County Raceway, Isle of Mann etc with mates who have similar interests.

Still she's a wealth of information, even if your scooby isn't a rollcaged lightweight shell ;)

We were thinking of putting a scooby boxer onto the back of our chenowth but instead have decided to go with more low down torque so V8's it is..

while my subaru was off the road, i decided to make it into a race car. still fully road legal as i have to drive it to events, race it and then drive it home. not really practical as an everyday car now though, so i bought a 400 series lexus. have to say the V8 is silky smooth. very over engineered. big barge but i love it. a guy in the states put a twin screw supercharger in his ls 400. turned it into a monster. spent enough on the scooby, i am not even going to contemplate doing anything to the lexus

That's the thing about the V8's, they need a nice heavy car, gawd know's though what's gonna happen when we put it on the back of a light weight chenowth :D:D:D:

Anyway her current main project is GRP'ing the shell of her range rover classic, mine is a complete strip/rebuild/efi and other bits on my GPz900R :)

hmmm........ spaceframe ain't got a lot of weight to it. could i suggest a wheelie bar for the back.

why not stick the V8 out of one of these. LS1 5.7 out of a holden

The GPZ as sold (115BHP) does a standing 1/4 mile in 10.55 seconds, not bad for a bike released in 1984. On one of the other forums a guy in the states has just EFI'd his and installed a turbo, he's currently still in the tuning process but should be fast at a current 200Bhp. I use it as a tourer so looking at EFI for economy rather than power but it should still raise the power up to about 130Bhp
