I was chatting online last a few mins ago and MSN logged off and wouldnt reconnect. When it did finally reconnect i found i couldnt connect to some sites but i can ping them and i was using these sites a few mins previously.

The sites are...

Hotmail.co.uk
gaydar.co.uk
eclipse-computers.com
and ebay.

i wonder if its connected in some way to my random connection drops from previous thread.

Sounds like a potential DNS problem, you may find things more reliable if you move to openDNS.

I use opendns and I am still having the problems I was having yesterday. For the last hour or so I haven't been able to load webpages but I have been able to use torrents.

Obvious question but is the upload on your torrents limited? If not, torrents will use every available bit of bandwith for upload leaving you nothing for browsing.

It was only on for a few mins and was running at around 5 kB/s down and 1 kB/s down so it couldn't have been that.

I checked at my uncles house today and he's having the same problems :dozey:

In what way does that look like a DNS problem? Easy enough to find out opena command prompt and type nslookup apple.com and see if that is slow, on a *nix system with time in stalled you could do this: time nslookup apple.com
Server: 194.168.4.100
Address: 194.168.4.100#53

The elapsed time being 1.05 seconds in this case (bearing in mind my connection is currently being hammered and ping times to the bbc are arouond 500ms) you should expect to see much lower times than that, typically hundredths of a second. DNS issues won't cause pages to partly load and freeze and generally won't affect moving from page to page within a site.

D'oh. Made a mess of typing 'a mess' too.

I can't get onto liverpoolfc.tv. Ping time is around 23ms, the site connects through my browser (page title changes, icon appears in address bar) then just seems to stall then time out
