Ok dudes,

Its been discussed in a few threads but let's hear your views as to what is the best router to get the absolute best performance out of VM's 50mbit service?

Top one's (no order)

1. DLINK DIR-825

2. DLINK DIR-855

3. LINKSYS WRT600 or 610N

4. AIRPORT EXTREME

5. DLINK DGL-4500

So let's hear it people - what is your top pick?

The DLINK-855 seems to be the best now that a version 2 of the model is out. The first revisions apparently were recalled.

I personally like number 5 but i don't like the fact I cannot use both bands in simulatenous mode. So might have to go with the 825 or 855.

None of the above, my own personal preference is for the Draytek Vigor 2820Vn

Not bad choice according to the reviews but im looking to do is have a dual band router.

I wanna operate my wireless using the less congested 5ghz band and stream stuff to my PS3.

Thinking about it now - I don't need both bands operating at the same time. That being said the DGL-4500 isn't a bad option for me.

This will be my setup.

Internet on both PCs in the house - Preferably on 5ghz band.
PS3 wired into router.

I can then stream to the PS3 no problemo.

could you not hardwire you network?

could you not hardwire you network?

Problem is that wiring to PCs is too messy and far.

I was gonna buy the DLINK DIR-855 (most expensive one) but if you look at these tests, the DGL-4500 records better throughput results.

The issue now is, is the DGL-4500 stable:

But perhaps someone can answer this - what is better 825 or 855?

I'd personally go for the Apple Airport Extreme, it's such a nice router and looks class - also dual band 5ghz, and you can network your printer and share files over usb.

In any event they'll all be fine, 50Mbit isn't quite as ground breaking and amazing as VM might have you think :)

Also, here are my actual download speeds offa newserver:

As you can see 6070kb/s - approx. 48.5mbits!!!

Very happy chappy now!

I'm unable to test 5ghz as I don't have a compatible adapter but i've ordered one.

I will report back with 5ghz speeds soon as.

p.s. I had to upgrade the firmware to 1.12

Glad to see it's worked out well for you, wouldn't approve of your downloads though

Indeed, serious waste of bandwidth downloading that rubbish.

I have the DIR-825 and am very happy with it's performance on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

I paid 99.99 for it on a special deal from play.com which also gave me £40 off the price of their model 160 dual-band dongle.

The QoS in the router is excellent, with a maxed connection not slowing web browsing for my wife at all.

Don't get too excited about performance, but it's definitely better than 802.11g 2.4GHz
