C:\Documents and Settings\Bananafishpooscum>tracert 192.168.100.1

Tracing route to 192.168.100.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms cable.ubr01.cast.blueyonder.co.uk
2 3 ms 4 ms 3 ms 192.168.100.1

Why is the UBR my first hop rather than Router Then Modem :S

shouldnt it be 192.168.1.1 > 192.168.100.1

im getting a download speed of 121kbps on a 10mb con its a tad poo but as far as im aware there is issues on ubr01 cast

You are using a router that appears to be setting it's hostname via dhcp., I used to have my firewall/router do this and that was what the hostname looked like, it should be similar to what you get when you click the connection link at the top of this page.

When i click the connection link i get

***
Connection Information
You appear to be on a Virgin Media Connection
Your IP address is 8*.**.**.**
Host *********.cable.ubr01.cast.blueyonder.co.uk

it's weird i have never noticed it before and i've do tracerts a million times through it.

You should probably find something better to do rather than running millions of tracerts, especially considering where you would appear to be judging by the UBR.

Anyway it is possible tracert is just resolving the ip instead, though they don't normally resolve when I have tried it.

(Goes off to try it).

Seems they do now - fairly certain they didn't before.
nslookup xx.xx.xx.xx
Server: 194.168.4.100
Address: 194.168.4.100#53

Non-authoritative answer:
xx.xx.xx.xx.in-addr.arpa name = xx.xx.xx.xx.cable.ubr01.cast.blueyonder.co.uk.

Blank the IPs to save an admin the bother - but I don't really mind.

C:\Documents and Settings\Bananafishpooscum>tracert 192.168.100.1

Bit of an odd username...

Not very sure on the Tracert though, does the same happen when you go direct to the modem?
