This might seem like a strange thread to make on CF but since some members seem to be into there cars etc etc am looking for some help. My fathers CD player has broke. I've found that its a part inside thats snapped and after looking around the web for hours the other day most people say that its just worth scrapping.

Anyway he bought another one second hand which is also having problems. When older discs go in they play fine but new discs cause a scratching noise and when I open it up its the disc slipping off the Rail/cd holder inside (sorry dont know the right terms). I've looked around and there's alot of people that have had similair problems with this model radio which is leading me to beleive its a common fault with the radio build.

The model is the 6006E 6 disc changer and I've looked all over Fords website for any information about getting them repaired or replaced and cant find anything.

So onto the question lol. Does anyone know were they can be bought new ? Or repaired ? How much they cost etc etc or is it worth looking at a diffrent CD player with some kind of facia kit to fit it in.

P.S. sorry for the long winded post. I wasted most the day trying to find the right infomation wthout success and its really getting to me :(

If it were me I'd get a different stereo of a good brand and buy a fascia kit to fit it :)

Halfords are pretty good for supplying that kind of thing, they'll even fit the stereo with the fascia at cost, but it does mean they have the wiring "problem" to worry about

Aren't Ford radios notoriously difficult to remove (and therefore fit)?

No they are easy to remove if you've got the keys. I'd sooner go with the facia kit and buy a quality CD player than the bulky ones FORD put in their cars.

Not if you have the keys as Nidge says. Very easy then.

A set of 4 keys from Halfords are £15, there are the little hook keys which are cheaper but the ones for the big bulky radios are £15.

£15?! My local Halfords do them for £4.99.

That will be for them that look like little coat hangers, the ones that cost £15 are for the new style of FORD radios, the £15 ones are flat with little rings on the end.

The £15 keys fit this radio. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2009/05/26.jpg The £4 keys fit this model. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2009/05/27.jpg

My Mondeo has a Quality CD Player "Sony 6CD" it has a AUX port in the glove box for any MP3 player.

The point I was making is that the poster I replied to said thd Ford don't do good head units.

But Sony is a good make.

Sony do make good head units but for sound quality I would go for Pioneer, Kenwood and the like :)

According to the Audio Guide that came wth the car, it says Sony 6CD (takes 6 CDs) there is a Sony CD (only 1 CD)

In this guide there is a sticker which has a "unit type SOCD 6N"

After looking at the link from NoKnowledge it seems its a Sony CDX-FC132 Cd Changer Radio. Ive seen this one before in the newer Mondeo's I'm going to look around and hopefully they fit a 52 mondeo to. (looks slightly to wide though tbh) :(
