All you should need to do is connect the PC to the STB and restart the STB (hold down the power button until it says 'Stop' and then release)

When you then try and go onto the internet it should direct you to the site to enter the PID. The password will have been reset to 1234

Or what you could do is .. do away with the whole internet through the set top box thing and get a broadband cable modem.

You will receive much faster speeds through this....

Internet through the STB is has not be sold for over 2 years now.
Virgin Media has discontinued this type of service.

hope this helps..

They haven't continued it per se, they just aren't providing it to new customers. All customers with internet through the STB are still supported, but do strongly recommend you get a separate modem.

If you call up and ask for one they'll send you it free of charge.

thanks for the replies
if they send out new separate modem how does it get wired up. surely vm will have to come out and do the wiring up

The modem has an ethernet socket. All you do is plug the router into the modem using an ethernet wire.

No different than plugging a PC in

Check out the guides for the G router here http://www.virginmedia.com/help/wireless/. Same basics apply

yes but at the moment as i see it the internet connection comes from the stb box upto the usb adaptor then into the pc. does the new modem plug into the stb box and then ethernet from there to the pc. or has in my own set up the broadband connection comes from the from the box outside, then to the pc. only one pc being used so a router is not required

There is a white box on the wall in the room where your TV box is. They will use a splitter to add another point, and run an additional cable from there to the new modem

all sorted
removed usb adaptor from ethernet cable and plug ethernet directly in to pc.
turned off pc and stb, restarted stb, restarted pc set up internet connection and went on to internet explorer used the http://start.ntl, to get to the registration screen after giving the pid and pin numbers i then gave the pc a new name end of registration.
restated pc and ie fires up.
thanks for all the help
