I'm on 20 meg. Internet speed is ok but binary newsgroups have a max speed of 5 - 6 megs. At times headers download at less than dial up speed.
Has anyone a similar problem?

There is a fault outstanding on the Virgin newsgroups relating to slow binary speeds and header downloads.

My email client (Thunderbird) is now asking me for a username and password where it didn't previously, with regard to newsgroups. What changed?

they had a problem a couple of weeks ago but as far as i was aware it is fixed now. I have just checked and I can pull 2mb/sec and I don't need a username or pass (using Grabit)

Virgin newsgroups are back to normal again now. No username or pass needed (Newsbin Pro)

Might seem ok on a 2 meg conection, i'm on 20 meg an still only getting around 8Mbps maximun, so still must be a problem somewhere.
As the newgroups are on Virgins own servers it is a direct connection so should get full speed. I use newsbin pro and it keeps a little in reserve but should get around 18Mbps as I have done for ages but recently no such luck....
