I was away for christmas and when I came home I've found the cable modem occasionally loses sync and also my download speed has been very intermittent. Tired a couple of speed tests and got around 500kbs. We are on the 20Mb service. Unplugging the modem and restarting it sometimes helps. This happens at all times of the day.

I checked out the cable modem diagnostics and my downstream SNR is around 29.5. Is this ok? d/s Power level is 2.8. Upstream power is 55.

I am connected directly with a ethernet cable and yes my PC is running nicely :)

Thanks for any help.

Downstream SNR is too low.
Upstream power level is bordering on too high.
Call and have a tech booked.
Also, which modem do you have?

Thanks I'll call tech first thing in the morning.

It's an Ambit home 200 jobbie. I think it's ok - it was replaced around a year ago.

Phoned customer services and they thought I might need a new modem. They are sending a new modem in the post. I don't see how this is going to help the SNR problem though.
