I've had world of warcraft (wow) for over a year now and have never had this problem before, whenever i log onto wow I stay logged on for around 10-15 minutes and then get disconnected and cannot reconnect for around 30 mins after. I've tried everything that blizzard recommends. I ran a tracert:

Tracing route to eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com [80.239.0.4]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

have you only started having the problem with WoW or does it affect other games/services?

Huge packet loss. You on wireless by any chance?

Sticking WoW traffic through a proxy? Don't think so - bad idea.

pantiome - which realm are you logging on to sir?

Try a cable. Seriously, massive packet loss to your own router is a big no-no.

Either that, or change wireless channel, or restart the router when you are unable to connect.

You do need to first try changing the wireless channel, as I've previously mentioned. It sounds like electrical interference and isn't a virgin media fault.

Changing to a wired network is not a option, but i have changed the wireless channel and hopefully shall be ok now :) i will get back to you on how it is going. Thankyou very much for your time and help

Please do post back if the issue is ongoing, I'm sure it's an easily fixable issue. :)

nope, it happened again :( could it be because of the distance between my computer and the router? i live in a 3 story house and the router is on the top floor and my computer is on the ground floor. We have a Belkin wireless n router and i have a Belkin 802.11g wireless usb adaptor, maybe i should upgrade to the Belkin 802.11n usb adaptor?

What's the signal strength of the connection when it's fine?

If it's below 75% and very fluctuating, then maybe a draft N card will help.

Wireless G isnt the best at range, unfortunately.

I downloaded a program to test my signal strength and it says that it is -82 dBm whatever that means :P it has a bar which looks as though it is about 15%-20% signal strength :S

---------- Post added at 15:26 ---------- Previous post was at 15:22 ----------

On the windows xp wireless network connection, it says my Signal Strength is either Low or Very low

Unfortunately at levels like that you can't really expect a good service. The course of action I'd personally take is to buy a wireless repeater (ad hoc) and place it on the floor between yourself and the router.

ive installed counter-strike: source and that works fine :S

The tracerts you provided showed latency to the router and much packet loss to said router, maybe CSS just got lucky. Either that or WOW is interfering with your network card. Unlikely at best.

Thankyou very much mate and I will get a wireless range extender: http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=5DW4&SearchType=1&SearchTerms=wireless+n+repeater&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0

I will get back to you once I have got it and tell you how I am getting on.

Mate i've been thinking, the network used to work fine where it is now, its only recently when I changed from Vista to XP Proffesional that this problem has been occuring, so I don't think that the range is a problem, is there any other reason you can think of that it could be?

Also Blizzard have some problems with lag on their servers at the moment especially at peak times - it may not be all your end.

I have wireless and although it's only around 5m from the wireless router I have a thick wall in the way and I get quite a bit of loss. Wireless only really works well with line of sight or through very thin boundaries.

You could try a Devolo plug or similar if you want a compromise between a wired and wireless

We have already tried the Devolo plugs but my house is on 2 separate circuits :P so it doesnt work :(

There is one other thing. You could try downloading the latest XP driver for your Belkin 802.11g wireless usb adaptor. There's a chance it may help.

Remember, if you're only extending for a g connection, then you don't need an expensive N access point. A cheap G access point will do the trick.

We brought the N router for the extended range because our computers are quite far away from eachother, and ive already downloaded the latest drivers for my usb adaptor.
