Hi,

I was one of the people affected the other week by the drop out on particular websites due to a bad route from VM.

Now last night at around 1210am the internet dropped out. I tried to get onto 192.168.100.1 but to no avail. The bottom light just flashes on and off periodically.

Tried this morning and no joy.

Phoned home before and still no joy.

Is this another Liverpool issue, i.e. has anyone else experienced this drop out or an issue specific to me?

I'm asking as I know stuff like this has happened before..

The past few weeks the service I've had has been diabolical :-/.

Ya, I'm in North Liverpool. Could be the same thing. Oh well. I'm still not getting 100% connection on Yahoo Messenger either...

If it isn't up tonight, I'll give VM yet another call and see what I can get sorted... *Sigh* lol.

I've just been on the phone with them because i can't seem to access this site www.valhallagaming.net or the GTA server IP, it seems all other sites are working although they're slow, according to the guy i spoke to (After 15 mins of me askin him to check with the network team cos he kept saying it was my computer) he went to check the status and apparently the issue is just affecting the northwest, some main cable is down and they don't know where it is so some websites won't work until they fix it. It sucks, but thats all they said :dozey:

If l am not wrong, wasn't Liverpool hit very badly when the final of The X Factor, last year, on VM, when it lost all services for six hours, l don't like to say it, but that show show is now on, this is a major problem on cable services, and when it goes down, surprisingly, the FULLY trained engineers cannot find the fault, and with all that latest techo about.

Well, last night couldn't get a lock for signal at all.. Now I have a lock for signal but the websites are pretty poor.. Just generally slow.

Phoned Virgin numerous amounts of times last night. Got a new modem and a £10 discount, so can't complain. I didn't even ask for the discount!

Yes, according to them there has been quite a big problem with a server.

I'm in South Liverpool and it's been a god awful connection for a week or so now. Gaming is next to impossible, and sometimes google/bbc sport don't even load!

Same here, but in Manchester. Had no internet access since Tue - absolutely ridiculous.

Bah. Was back down again this morning after working right as rain all night ... On Warhammer Online I might add :).

whydoIneedatech...

There's definitely an issue in Liverpool, but I'm not sure which specific areas are affected. Like I said, my brother, work colleague and a friend have all experienced the same thing and we're all in different Liverpool post codes!

It is a bit up and down but I have just ran a gamefies.virginmedia.com speedtest and got 2.3mbps which is 22.5mb in total, and the last time I was stmed was February this year.

2.3MB/s is that all? A mere 18.5Mbit? I get 2.4MB/s, well, did, we'll see what I am getting this evening!

No really, what's the upgrade for?

bertles86

4mb to 10mb...in September which ends tomorrow...

CIS

That’s cool and all, but with more people coming onto higher packages and therefore higher download rates, would it not be more of an advancement for VM to get the people who are at the top (20mb) working and downloading at their sold speeds first and then work down?

Surly by then upgrading people to higher packages and these new higher packages holders not then receiving their 10mb or 20mb speeds, the whole mechanism slows down with yet again higher rates of support calls, so on so forth.

That's not information that we tend to collate, although such details may come to the fore during the course of the normal interactions between members, I would suspect though that we have a few Members here that have varying degrees of disability.

My 4MB connection is generally pretty decent. I live in St. Helens...classed as the Liverpool area.

Although when ever I download over 700MB in 1 day, my connection gets severely limited to under 0.5MB, and I get high latencies and time outs on some local hops.

Problems with the Liverpool area have been bad for a good two weeks now (cut-off's slow downs and some sites not working) and now tonight i'm hardly getting broadband seeds at all.

It's really not good enough.

Looks like VM are doing some capacity upgrade work in your area next week, which may help to ease the pain a little.

I think it's a capacity upgrade to increase the throughput on the UBR so it can handle the load a lot better. But it's no excuse for letting it get that bad in the first place tho. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt (oversubscribed from Oct 07 till Sep 08).

That'll be impressive considering they aren't starting the capacity upgrades until Tuesday morning and the upgrades run for four nights.

This work is scheduled to commence at midnight and finish at 06:00am.
07/10/08:- Amersham, Bradford, Haringey, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Sandwell, Wigan.
08/10/08:-Bradford, Liverpool, Wigan.
09/10/08:-Bradford, Haringey, Liverpool, Warwick, Wigan.

It has really hit rock bottom ever from the 10mb upgrades were put into motion. I really hope these planned capacity upgrades do something to improve the situation, because if they don’t, then I’m off to ADSL.

ADSL BB in my area (people i know and such) is great and has been for a good while, 8mb with good pings and download speeds. Because at this time, most of us are not even touching ADSL 8mb speeds.

hi there, i just googled vm bad pings liverpool and ure forums came up.

im in the L7 area and the high pings and slow downloads still continues. We called up a few times apprently they still have capacity problems but they have no idea when its gonna be fixed. Which is baffling me the fact that they dnt know when its gonna be done not even a rough idea.

They said the first scheduled attempt of fixing the problems were 23rd of september. And now its october its been a whole month and still the bad ping and slow downloads. We are on 20mb and getting about 100kbps download speed neone else still have problems? and does neone else manage to get thru to someone who knew why its taking this long?

I am in Liverpool 18 and was told 23rd September I get 16meg in daytime in night under 1meg at times and was told the ubr21 will be upgraded in November

bertles86

What does that mean g0mit? The ubr is being upgraded? Does that mean its oversubscribed and when the upgrade is done there will be enough bandwidth for everyone?

"Oversubscribed" is a word often used when describing a problem with a UBR. This could be TXload, SNR etc...

In the L7 also. Told the exact same thing. I've got 10mb and most times I'm not even downloading at 40kbps. It's only at half 3 in the morning will my internet start downloading over 100kbps, which is still poor for a 10mb connection. But I don't think I should wait till 4 in the morning for a decent connection.

It's totally unacceptable.
