Hi All,

If anyone with a little nore tech know-how can offer up any guidance to my problem, I would be most grateful.

I have recently recieved my 4mb to 10mb upgrade via Virgin BB :). However, I can't seem to take advantage of the upgrade over my wireless network.
I get a steady 10mb avg on various speed test sites if the connection is via cat5 from modem to laptop/desktop. If I go via wireless it's stuck around 4mb which is what I had before the upgrade.

My router is a linksys wrt54g v5 running the latest dd-wrt (micro) build. I hope that it's a case of some tweaks to the wireless router but I'm stuck without some help.......I have tried my best to search this out before asking but no joy.

Thanks in advance,

D

Have you tryed changing the channels that the wireless runs on plus how far away are you when testing the connection via wireless

Thanks for the prompt reply....
I was on Ch 6.
I just tried Linksys support and their guidance was pretty much as yours -
" Change from CH6 to CH9, Change beacon interval from 100 - 50, change Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 & change RTS Threshold to 2304....still no joy but I have not reset modem or router?

Thanks again.
< Sorry, I'm around 10 ft away with clear LOS, literally looking at the router >

Is everything set to 'G' mode only (router and adaptor)?

Have you set up your QoS settings? Upload/Download speed? Check it, it might still be on your old 4mbit settings, which effectively will restrict your bandwith

Have you tryed changing the channels that the wireless runs onI'd recommend downloading netstumbler (http://www.stumbler.net/). That will tell you what channels your neighbours are using, so you can set yours to to a different one.

Thanks for the further support....
The wireless mode is currently set to mixed.
The QoS is set at disable.

I will go get netstumbler and have look what's going to suit me best.

As per one of the reply's I will try G only but can you offer any guidance for the QoS part.

Thanks again,

1. use a channel which nobody local to you is using, yes.

2. ensure the wireless router isn't hidden away.

3. enable quota limits? bandwidth etc.

Thanks again -

Channel 11 clear for me as per Netstumbler.

Router is in good location and whilst I'm trying to resolve this, I'm sitting 4ft from the router.

I'm a little unsure on the quota bits....sorry?
