Hi there everyone, I have recently upgraded my speed with virgin media, not my choice to be with them but i live with it.

well my internet connection used to go from the set top box now it's a modem, My problem is when i turn on my pc I don't get any internet. The only way to get my internet is to unplug the ethernet and power to the modem, put power back in, turn pc on, plug in ethernet.

once internet is working it's fine im getting good speeds and everything but that is too much hassle to live with.

Even getting the internet to work at first wasen't self explanetetry, the book said to go a website to activate but no mention of haveing to ring up customer service to give them my mac address which i have done now.

heres my ip config from cmd in vista 64bit

I'd edit out your IP address if i were you ;).

you seem to have alot of "media disconnected", maybe a possible NIC or modem fault or possibly a faulty cable.

Personally don't think it is a dodgy cable, as only friday befor i had my new internet it was working fine, I have two ethernet ports on the motherboard and both have same sort of problem.

someone on another forum did suggest maybe getting a router so that it keeps my ip. anyone else think this might work?

Well it might work, but if your modems at fault, it wont give an IP to the router. Thus you will still have no internet.

Post what modem you have and your power levels from your config pages of your modem. The should be a sticker on the bottom saying what model.

Open a browser and in the address bar put> 192.168.100.1 password and username are both root if required.

DO NOT POST YOUR MAC ADDRESS OR SERIAL NUMBER

I'm a bit puzzled by the non-standard subnet mask and also the default gateway being in a different IP group to the IPv4 address.

Something looks a bit screwy but I'm not sure why.

Your Downstream and Upstream are "Locked", when they should read "Operational"
It looks like your service is being restricted, phone VM

Ok update, I phoned virgin media today and mentioned what was happening, the guy just said "he knows what that is, you need a new modem" So he is sending one out.

He did not mention exactly what is happening, but hopefully this will help anyone haveing the same problem. I do have my doubts but will update with what happens when my modem arrives.

And thankyou everyone for takeing your time to give suggestions and help.

You will receive the same modem, so I do not know how that will resolve anything.

I did think that as well, so im assumeing that maybe some have a certain fault who knows.
