Hi Guys...I posted yesterday my modem Downstream signal in thread
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33636451-check-check-and-check-page-2.html

PC Direct to Modem:

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 2
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM64
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : -11.8 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 32.0 dB

The support team @ Virgin said it was registering -4 @ there end.... I have now removed this Attenuator from the modem - New figures below

Without Attenuator

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 2
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM64
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : 2.5 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 33.5 dB

Should I be asking for a new filter?

No. Removing it is fine as it "attenuates" or reduces the signal. With it in line your signal level is out of the range recommended for a stable connection. With it taken out, the levels return to the recommended levels for a stable connection. Leave the attenuator out of the line and your connection should now be more stable.
