Hi,

Having some stability problems with my connection. Surfboard 4100, on a Hitchin Luton UBR.

Yesterday, the connection was slow (max download rate of about 15kb/sec) and today it is much better.

Yesterday, the downstream SNR was 27-30dB which I understand is a bit low. Today it is 38dB so perhaps downstream SNR is the issue.

Upstream power level is 58dBmV on both days, which I understand could also potentially be cause for concern.

But the weirdest thing seems to be that yesterday (when it was slow) the CM locked onto a downstream frequency of 403MHz:

Acquired Downstream (403000000 Hz)........ SUCCESS
Acquired DS with status OK, DS Freq 403000000, US Id 1

And today I'm on 402.75MHz:

Acquired Downstream (402750000 Hz)........ SUCCESS
Acquired DS with status OK, DS Freq 402750000, US Id 1

The downstream frequency used to be 402.75MHz for most of the country, if I remember correctly. I never heard of 403MHz being rolled out.

Is my cable modem locking onto a bad frequency, or do Virgin UBRs now offer both frequencies?

Go into the modem config page and change it back to 403 then.
http://192.168.100.1/config.html
If you make any changes to the settings on this page, you must click Save Changes. The changes will not take effect until the next time the cable modem restarts: you may force a restart by clicking Restart Cable Modem.

For NTL in the original (not ex-C&W) regions, the correct frequency to set is 402750000, instead of the Surfboard's estimate of 403000000.

403 is what I was on yesterday when it didn't work very well. I'm just surprised that it locked onto 403 at all, and worked to a certain extent. Unless 403 is now offered by some UBRs?

The configuration page is already set to 402.75. That didn't stop it from locking onto 403 yesterday.
