as per Florences idea #10414 (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/34586383-post10414.html) in the main mega Phorm thread, heres another potential Mega thread, to put all your longer term OT but related posts subjects and link back between the threads.

just so its clear , i make this a nothing is OT here (subject to generic forum rules OC) as long as it in some way relates to fighting this world DPI/tech interception for profit intrusion.

OT posts are good for taking and bringing to light new avenues to explore so go to it.

linking like this #10413 (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/34586373-post10413.html) is easy here, left click and highlight the post No you wish to include, release the mouse button, press right mouse and select "copy" not copy URL, then simply paste into the new post.

There's also another address for the website without using swear words
http://www.kindlyfoxtrotoscar.com/

Just KFO'd both Phorm and Kent

their website tracker tools are interesting to
http://www.kindlyfoxtrotoscar.com/?action=tools

kents No is 45
phorm No is 132
Bt No is 44

do you have to be registered before your comments show up there?, i cant seem to see any of my or anyones comments! in the "Reasons/Comments" sections.

i clicked add reason/comment, entered my reasons and then clicked the nominate in the right order but nothing appearing... a Bug perhaps, or is it visable to registered users there?

BTW kents just gone up from 6 to 5 in the rankings, the stand alone tool makes a rattle noise when something changes, try it

I've used a brilliant royalty free recording of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies (http://www.incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/search.html?genre=Holiday)... by Kevin MacLeod of Incompetech.

The video is fab, and I'd love to share it. I can't because I fear it may still be in copyright (the script author died 67 years ago, worst case copyright may still exist for 70 years after the last performer/author's death).

Shame, I'd love to share it with everyone.

Makes me so angry BT think they can claim the right to ignore copyright with impunity, at the same time as they serve disconnection warning letters on their own customers for copyright abuse.

seems like a good first look live CD (as in,you boot it, it works, without overwriting any of your real HD installed OS)for streaming your created videos and live streams for such as the protest as well.

give them a try in your back garden on the laptop, and make sure you have it down and right first time, and/or can work out the bugs that show up, so you dont get it wrong on the protest day ;)

remember...no matter were you are in the country, you can add your voice to the london meeting protest , even if your on your lunch break, in the office, and want to contribute in some way.

SO DO IT, in whatever way you are able to assist....

IAB Membership Extended Way Beyond Publishers

http://blog.clickz.com/iab_logo_good.jpgPerusing the Interactive Advertising Bureau's membership pages, I came across a host of companies I was surprised to see, including several non-publisher firms listed as "General Members." I thought general membership (as opposed to associate membership) was exclusive to online publishers. Not so, anymore, I've been told.

According to chief Randall Rothenberg, the group revised its bylaws. Now membership is "open to sellers of interactive advertising inventory."

OK. So how come ad tech companies like Eyeblaster and ISP ad targeting firms NebuAd and Phorm, which serve and target ads rather than selling ads, are general members?
"We're still a sellers' organization," he responded. "But you always have to qualify that by saying there is so much breadth and diversity, the lines aren't as clearly drawn."

hmm , no one interested enough in the OT BT phorm thread content so far to comment?, nice to know your all so focused on the main event, and putting all your effort into that.....

anyway...., i thought id try and find some simple server side video content systems for use for the protest and beyond that anyone can install and use on their home or ofice PCs.

heres one thats got a demo install for you to play with.

it (Plumi) is very clunky and would need some serious tweaking to make it far more automatic, but the basics seem to work in a 3 step/page click and fill, and i uploaded Petes
"conniving Kent Collecting Content" ;)

check this link out

http://demo.plumi.org/Members/pip99/videos/dephormation-pete-get_video.flv/view?searchterm=depho

remember thats just a demo, so not for our general use, only testing, but take a look and see if that fills and fits a need to encurage far more protest video's you can then run directly off your Broadband connection for the lead up to the protest and beyond....

or even better , if you can get permission to run a video server on the company webside servers to get far better thoughput and smother playback perhaps.... OC if you already have your own Co-Location server its not a problem to install your video server/Nas web frontend of choice (providing one fits the need exactly, non so far as far as i can find...)to make it easy to upload any format of video you care to make and stream etc.

i assume it can work with most of the windows ported self contained zips, so linux isnt a 100% need.

I did have an idea of getting the video's Kent and his team posted to youtube then putting subtitles into English at the bottom as his advertising spyware magnate speak isn't anything like real English.

for example.. http://youtube.com/watch?v=QQULhWLWucM

"as far as the consumer proposition is concerned Webwise is a way of spying on internet users and getting private data about them. Think of it as spyware installed at your isp.."

I've grabbed the video using downloadhelper, but I can't seem to pop it into Movie maker :( I'll keep trying

its all about useing the right tool for the right job, it really is a mess out there but with the right tool its possible.

genericly speaking today, Mpeg2 codecs and .mpg containers that your video and audio sit inside, are the universal import and export formats used to edit, cut and paste your clips in most apps today.

its not perfect, and the final output is far larger than your AVC encoded mpg,mov,mp4,3g final videos, but alas AVC/H.264 cut, paste editors are still few and far between as are the far more versatile .TS(transport stream) A/V containers that all the DVB-* broadcasting use (good for combining many clips or seperate channels if you will, into one single fixed video stream.

to keep it simple, you need a cut and paste editing app that can take the video input (.flv in the case of tube, they are using some AVC/H.264 codecs now but in that .flv container)with the ability to cut and paste your clips then output to generic Mpeg2.

use these mpeg2 clips to then assemple your final video, and output as an .Mpeg container, using an mpeg2 codec, or AVC/h.264 codec for far smaller size for streaming etc.

see this site for lots of basic and not so basic tips.

I don't think it's that I'm not interested, I think I'm a little swamped to be honest.

The main thread is bad enough to try and keep track of, now we have a second thread which is littered with references I don't understand and links I don't know whether I need to follow.

I've had a hard enough time keeping up with what's been going on in the main thread, I can see the need for a thread to keep us up to date with the main developments but I have to confess that I really don't know where this particular thread is going :erm:

I'm not trying to belittle the work that you're putting in though, honestly - I think you're all doing an amazing job. I think the problem is that I may just be a little too stupid to understand it all in its current format :D

fine , raistlin your not , its just different skills or interests for different people

its ok you, or anyone else doesnt NEED to keep track of this OT thread, but its here to fill the gap , in this case to help encurage people to make video for the protest....

but anything that might become more than a one off OT comment can find its way here to be expanded on without filling the main Phorm thread.

this sites main purpose after all, is helping people learn new skills, and makeing your own video clips for the web is quite fun at times.

"littered with references I don't understand and links I don't know whether I need to follow." if the subject interests you, or you might have an itch to try, then people here as always, are willing to try and help others that need or want the help.

you know this raistlin being here all the time, but many new users comeing to CF because of the Phorm thread might not realise , Cf is there to help an encurage helping community and growth.

i dont know everything about video, and i learn new stuff every day, this weekends goal was to try and find simple server software, to try and help people that might be wanting to take part in the protest but cant get there in person.

you can make these protest video's no matter were you are, and upload them to the likes of youtube, but you, or more importantly, the other interested new people wanting to find out more information, dont have a good way to keep track and comment on the page of the content (i hate the youtube look and feel, its only good for pointing to the content indirectly, and you cant easily download the content to re-edit it if its CC allowable).

those references above fill one of those needs, and means if you have a broadband connection anywere, you could if you liked, install those Audio and video server apps on your own personal web server running straight off your home PC connection, and point people to it directly on the protest day....or before, as one single option.

weather you pre-loaded it with unseen content you made ready for the protest day, or live as it happens in your part of the country, in your office, your local shopping centre, or anywere you can take a laptop and video cam and get a net connection.

its not just the TV pro's that can do this live reporting, you can do it too with a little preperation and and practice before hand.

OC it might be better if Alexander and the other webside website owners here installed them for anyone to easily use upload nnd have live comments posted against it.

as they have the speed, and the extra bandwidth to play with, but the more people that try, the better to get a full coverage of any live video anyone in the country might make in support of the protest.

not least the totally unaware or assuming new users that we will reach on the day, they might have a mobile phone cam handy , and on the spur of the moment if their informed they can, want somewere to send this video that relates and links directly the protest, hence some coordination might be a wise thing to forsee and plan for, even if its only one single site to link all the protesting audio and video uploading in realtime.

somewere were you can download the CC content and re-edit it, if thats your thing, content is king, and in this situation, being able to edit it is good to get the messages out.

i might be focusing on this one subject to much this weekend, and people might not see why, but the one main reason is simple,

the more video we collect, and help create now, and on the day, the more Anti Phorm/DPI for profit video we have later to use as PR promo's and information points of reference later...

for instance a VIP or two turn up at the demo, some users perform an interview, with two mobile phones (or any combination of DVcam etc)available, you can then point one cam at the interviewer, and one at the interviewee, upload them both, and someone at home can take them both, and edit it into a new 3rd video, pro news style instead of panning between the two people and lossing the dramatic effect or expressions.

just a simple one off example of forward thinking to create something far better looking, and harder hitting later.

anyway enough of my waffle ;)

this Mux Power seems interesting http://mux.am/power/ but it didnt do a very good job of keeping audio sync with the kent youtube video above, i dont know if thats because of the youtube encoding (another reason to dislike tube)or the mux.am encoding it to mpeg2....

looks like fun for auto conversion and perhaps insertion into any video server you might setup and run using the email notification....

todays daily wirless http://www.dailywireless.org/2008/06/29/netguard-mobilizes/

covers a lot of ways to get and extend wireless net coverage , but the main part of interest for the demo and related wants/needs is probably the Free streaming video solutions near the end.

OC i like (always have since the rootnet days) the The Meraki Outdoor unit (http://meraki.com/oursolution/hardware/outdoor/spec/) with the WiMAX modem pluged into it, to create an almost instant free wireless Mesh LAN and web gateway for anyone to use on a temp basis at such events as you might attend, but thats just me.

low power wireless Mesh networking and long distance are my want for the future.

preferably free after the initial hardware layout OC, and shared with other like minded people looking to bypass the ISPs total control of your data as much as possible...

all the way to a direct or mesh routed reasonable Co-Location site shareing the running costs by the likes of community Co-Ops and the like, some day.

OC thinking about the demo or other future event,if your in range of a wimax provider or are likely to be so at an event or near home, then it might a good thing to consider taking with you one of those and a meraki or two including the solar pannels or a lashup power of some sort, and share that bandwidth with others attending on the day .perhaps....

OT from ....#11520 (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/34596647-post11520.html)

Hmmm Windows only it seems...:(

it souldnt be a problem if they keep to that test feed,
WMV3,WMA2 ,320x240
mms://twofour.wmod.llnwd.net/a2238/d1/u/BT/AGM1_bb-001.wmv

if anyone wants to Run a VLC in a video server mode on their webside webservers, or even your home BB connection if you have enough bandwidth OC ,you can always take any open video feed that VLC can see, and re-broadcast off your own private site for your friends to enjoy, it should be easy enough.

or you can even re-transcode (change from one format [wmv]to another [mpeg2]) containers for instance) on the fly.

if you want the simplest way to get the VLC command line output to use from a (secure and remote website)shell/cli , then the easy way is to just connect to VLC's internal websever, and play with the different trancoding/streaming output options from the web browser interface, then just copy paste the Streaming Output Destination (MRL) from that.

you will get the idea if you play around with some online video streams as your input.

shame Multicast isnt generally available over the web connection OC ;) so generic old hat, and ineffective Unicast wil have to do, you might try mixing in "MTunnel" into the mix OC, but i dont know if you can get it to just work as a multi end user Multicast tunneled feed, I.e run one stream , and loads of your friends can connect to that single MC tunneled feed as long as they too are running that "mtunnel" at their end...

http://cheyenne-server.org/blog.rsp the webserver written in rebol could work as a quick and easy self contained small webserver for anyones need re broadcast or transcode their videos housed or streamed elsewere on the net (your live webcam FI)OC.

with a little bit of thought and testing, you should be able to VLC stream your webcam on your laptop at the AGM, to your webside server and have another copy of VLC there taking that single stream as its input, and re-broadcast it directly off the webside server, making that take the brunt of the mass streaming download demand, instead of your restricted wireless connected laptop webcam VLC feed.

a relay type connection if you will...

It isn't working in VBox or VMWare either. How do you assign exclusive use in VBox?

Alexander Hanff

i just set up a clean Vbox xpsp2 just to be sure, and posting from it right now as it happens ;)

it should be simple assuming you set the USB2 options in that images config settings before you boot the image, then plug your usb device in, and windows doesnt get a look-in as the Vbox has control of the usb now.

just check the Vbox "Devices" "USB devices" and you should see your USB devices, for instance i can see the lads usb scanner and usb sticks etc.

settings/usb/ "Enable USB Controller" and "Enable USB 2.0 Controller" in the Vbox image of your choice should do it before you start it if not.

oh and its probably easyest to set a "shared folder" before you start as well to save and load any files
between the real and emulated OS images....network browsing can be a little flaky to setup ,so a share is easyer...

is that 22050 the original files freq, if so its might be very hard to clean it up as theres lots of clipping (loss of high/low information) as might be expected at this freq, if the original is 44000 then it might be doable....

the original was a .WAV container in some mp3 codec i assume !

is that 22050 the original files freq, if so its might be very hard to clean it up as theres lots of clipping (loss of high/low information) as might be expected at this freq, if the original is 44000 then it might be doable....

the original was WAV container in some mp3 codec i assume !

Well the original was mono hense the 22050Hz (half of a stereo 44100Hz stream) so there is no way to get it any higher (that was the highest quality supported by the voice recorder). I have balanced the file currently on the site so it is played through both speakers as opposed to be truly mono though.

Are we going to open a new thread now the original has been closed by the Mod's ?

Shame really.

No you will not be opening a new thread. It was closed for the reasons stated. If anyone gets any new information we will consider a new thread then, as we will when the AGM takes place. If anyone has an issue with an admin decision they should contact that team member directly.

My vote is for setting up an independent forum. While there is a lot over at the BT users' forum and Badphorm, neither of those are as rambling as the CF forum was and moving this method of covering the topic to either of them would water them down.

Just my 2p.

My understanding is that there already is an independent forum, where most of these discussions are mirrored.

Where?

Much as I understand the reasons, the timing of the closure of the topic just a few days before the protest is very unfortunate.

Would it not be possible for a mod to add a post to the end of the closed topic pointing to the major other places carrying information and/or discussions about Phorm please?

The decision to close that thread has been made, 'unfortunate' or not, anything that needed to be said to publicise other sources of information could (and should) have been said whilst it was open - possibly in place of some of the negative, cyclic, unconstructive, posts that have necessitated its closure.

I'll take this opportunity to remind everybody that continued discussion/debate regarding a moderating decision should not be conducted via the forum, if you wish to do so you should take the matter up directly with the Team via PM.

We will review the situation tonight. CF has no desire to silence debate on legitimate topics regarding Phorm.

I believe a mod has been asked to post the link onto the end of the old thread.

For the record I have offered one of the 'big hitters' in the Phorm thread to call me so we can discuss the matter no the phone but has so far not replied to me. It's important to note we have no interest in silencing legitimate debate, as has been implied in some of the PMs I've received.

Please note (for the seond or third time) we are not silencing the debate on Phorm, but something needed to be done about that thread.

I am in the process of sorting out a new thread on Phorm....

Well if you are streamlining all content/links into a more manageable thread that would be very much appreciated, after all the thread has been instrumental in a lot of coordinated effort against Phorm and BTs secrecy, effort that could otherwise not have been achievable by any one individual against such big adament companies. Links especially with reference to the original thread which I hope will remain here historically for reference... but  that is one undertaking. Good luck.

The original thread will remain in view. Buried in there somewhere is useful information that should always be retained. Thus it can always be linked to from wherever.

But as for any replacement discussion, wait and see. I doubt anyone has the time or stamina to work their way through it to pull out salient information.

There was a point to this thread

Yes there was Rob ,its right there, on the thread title for all things OT BR as relates to Phorm , the Protest, and DPI tech etc, so as not to get the main thread closed 2 days before the protest, and nullyfy all the time and effort of collecting all the people interested in the subject to the Cable forum, but that was a bust obviously.....

my very first post makes it clear enough "..just so its clear , i make this a nothing is OT here (subject to generic forum rules OC) as long as it in some way relates to fighting this world DPI/tech interception for profit intrusion.

OT posts are good for taking and bringing to light new avenues to explore so go to it...."

the CF membership (and far more Guests visiting)has grown a lot since I started collecting all interested partys here, and its a shame the main thread is deemed closed now before any action that the protest might bring is known , and anyone with a Phorm/DPI interest thats now used to comeing here has no reason to to do so anymore.

just what BT/VM/CPW and Phorm wanted to happen infact

if all the OT stuff were moved to this thread or another related one, then i cant see a problem keeping the old one going too...

I've had the same problem. I've checked my junk folder and it's not there either but maybe things are just running slow? Maybe a lot of users are trying to sign up at the minute?

BTW - maybe I'm just blind but it took me ages to find the link to register. For some reason I was expecting it to be somewhere at the top or bottom of the forum pages rather than in the sidebar.

Perhaps if some of the anti phorm crowd had been a bit more circumspect in their posting on CF then the thread may not have had to close.Sometimes it seemed like some were posting for the sake of posting and just to have a natter and sometimes to suggest some highly dubious behaviour which could lead CF into trouble.

If some had just thought BEFORE they posted.:(

Sorry Popper, looks to me as if there are more mods on this thread than genuine posters who want to discuss "DPI, Phorm, Webwise subthread for all things OT BR". They're even starting to disagree with themselves I think. It's great shame that it's come to this on CF as many guests will now not know where to go to get anti-phorm info. Best of luck 'cos I guess I'll get told off or banned for this post.

Sorry, no hiding behind an Alias once you're on the Team - no privacy in this game :D

sorry Raistlin, i didnt see your post until the other thread closed (now open again lol) and other people finally started useing this one for the OT stuff it was made for.

yeah, thats the reason i didnt volunteer to become one myself, i could have been doing my part to clean up the main Phorm thread and moving OT BR stuff here, and linking it back over there, as i have tryed to do here as a mere user in this anything goes OT BR thread, but alas, its not to be if Alias isnt allowed OC

i noticed that people are slacking in the http://www.kindlyfoxtrotoscar.com/?action=toplists nominations too, no sign of any new names other than VM and TT yet and lets hope it stays that way :erm:

i dont get it, is the http://www.iii.co.uk/investment/detail.epl?code=cotn%3APHRM.L&display=trades&it=le&show=25&timeframe=480
trades section broken or is there really no trades again today....

on another related point, it seems other than the CF Phorm thread there has been a total lack of Phorm related news posts http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=phorm&btnG=Search

see this is what the threads for , no messing up the main one, and points and helpful pointers for other CF users to take onboard or not as the case may be, are being made

The Cable Forum Team is actively discussing how best to promote a manageable, accessible discussion of Phorm within this forum. When we have decided how to proceed, we will make an annoucement.

In addition to Chris T's post, on behalf of the team I'd like to express our thanks for those who have been in contact with us and shown us your sincere support over our decision to close the old Phorm thread and the belief that we are entitled to hold an opinion. :)

Believe me, we know there needs to be a public debate about Phorm, we won't be abandoning it and hope to be discussing it again shortly.
