View Full Version : Only getting half of the maximum amount...

For the past few weeks I've only seem to be able to get half of the speeds that my connection can do - (i'm on the 10MB line). The first week it was maxing out at 1.1MB but my cfosspeed indicator shows it's only hitting 503KB. I doubt it's anything to do with whether I am getting good speeds from my download sources (rapidshare, megaupload, torrent, emule), so just wondering if anyone has noticed something similar. It's bad enough with the stms, but if VM is halving my line, then that's just taking the micky.

maybe download a software file from a virgin media website game etc for example see what sort of speeds you get there , also try www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk see what this returns to you be aware the results can vary from every hour but generally gives you an average idea of what its like what does the speedtest here at cf tell u?

example :
my result but i am on 20mb tier

Are you sure your area has been upgraded to 10Mb/s?

It looks like you are on a 4Mb/s Tier.. Way too consistant to be a badly performing 10Mb/s service.

In the Ambit 256 Browser window:
Cable Modem Operation Configuration
Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 512000
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 1600
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragametation Enabled, PHS Disabled

Region: TS5

So yep definitely on the 10MB.
