All day I've been having slow speeds, so slow that it goes less than 1Mb...

I'm currently on 10Mb.

I've tried cabled and wireless, makes no difference. I've also did a speedtest on my PC which also has crappy speeds.

Anyone else having any problems?

have you tried looking on the virgin media network problems page ?
they some times show if there's trouble in an area.

Anyone? I'm still getting terrible speeds...

Test 1: 1024K took 9011 ms = 113.6 KB/sec, approx 936 Kbps, 0.91 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 8616 ms = 118.8 KB/sec, approx 979 Kbps, 0.96 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 9289 ms = 110.2 KB/sec, approx 908 Kbps, 0.89 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 16522 ms = 124 KB/sec, approx 1022 Kbps, 1 Mbps

capped m8 looks like it go to 192.168.100.1 in your browser and post your downstream number and upstream

being capped (by which I assume you mean being subject to STM) doesn't show in the modem stats - it is applied at the headend.

I agree that testing the upload speed is often a better option than the download - just based on my circumstantial recollection of people posting results on here, mind, I don't have any links.. :)

Download Speed: 1031 kbps (128.9 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 490 kbps (61.3 KB/sec )
I'm not STM'd because it's been like that for 2 days and I haven't downloaded anything big enough.

couple of questions:
how many pc/laptops on your router ?
if more than one try switching internet off on all other pc/laptops and run speedtest on each machine one at a time.
Then if you are using wifi change ssid and your wep/wap key(if switched on).
Cheers,
Phil:D

Half the speed it should be tonight on the speedtest.

Download Speed: 4979 kbps (622.4 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 479 kbps (59.9 KB/sec )

Taking 6 FTP connections to get to 10Mbps. 1.22MB/s

Urm, I'm now directly connected to the modem and I'm getting 8+Mb. Do I need a new router or just cache cleared or something basic like that?

Did you get 10Mbps through the router before? If you never did get 10Mbps then I'd suspect it would be time for a new one.

Yeah, I've always had decent speeds with it. Ah man, I haven't even had it a year. Do Linksys do routers for about £40?

The Linksys WRT54G is a popular recommendation for VM. You can pick one up on Amazon or eBuyer pretty cheap. I have one myself and I get the full 10Mbps no problem at all, even on wireless.

Well I need a router that can handle 2 PCs and a 360, and a decent wireless connection.

just make sure its the WRT and Not the WRK.as soon as you switch on the WRK's nat (firewall) it goes all screwy on you.

i just use the wrk as a switch now as this was another way of stopping lag and hosting trouble with the xbox360.
a long way round what should be an easy job:(

Erm, I've just checked that routers spec out and it mentions nothing about ethernet ports. Does it have any? Because I can only see it mention USB.

If you mean the Belkin this is from their support site

Belkin F5D7231UK4 Wireless 108Mbps Cable Broadband Router

Your Modem may be an ADSL Modem (connected to your phone line) or a Cable Modem (connected to a co-axial aerial, often shared with television). Either way the Modem must have an RJ45 connection to your PC, not a USB connection.

How do you access a Belkin routers settings? Apparently (so Currys say) someone thought it would be a brilliant idea to add a function to the router which allows DISCONNECTS you from the modem resulting in a modem restart less than every 30 minutes! I tried a program they told me to try out, guess what? It doesn't do the job!

It seems like the problem was with having wireless enabled on the router. I disabled it and now my connection is fine, well better. It's disconnected twice on me since about 6ish.
