OS Vista Home..XL Broadband...Current Modem "Virgin Media 256 MAC Black Box.....Previous was the NTL Silver one 100 MAC.

Change was due to continuos failing to get a connection until removing Power from Modem for each Fail.
3 Weeks ago Engineer called and replaced Modem with the 256 Mac..all seemed okay and then the same problems.
Yesterday, Friday, Engineer called and tested the Connection and fitted an Equalizer to the Brown box on the outside wall..said taht should do it but if not then call Broadband support again, this was at 1:45 pm.
At 4:15 Connection failed..Power removed for 5 seconds then all ok.
At 16:22 lost connection ..Power off for 5 seconds then all ok.
16:36 Connection failed...Power off tried and all ok.
16:46..Same sequence.
17:04..18:17...21:45...all the same results as above..Double Glazing stopped Modem from ending in back garden.

Today, Saturday..switched comp on all okay..09:25.
Failed at..14:24...15:04..15:06..15:37..15:47. same sequence as for Friday.
Between each of these failing connections I went off line and then tried again.

I do not have Router or anything else connected...Ethernet straight from Modem to Comp.
Will ring Virgin again on Monday !!!.
Wonder if I connect my eMachine with XP Pro instead of this Vista one to see if it will cure the problem LOL.
Anyone with suggestions on what might be the cause. £35 per month for an almost non operating Broadband aint making me a happy bunny.

MAC box? You mean Modem?

Have you got a second network cable you can try? This is clutching at straws, failing that you can now phone BB Tech support free just phone 150 and choose the BB option.

Can you post the upsteam and downstream results and the SNR from the modem ie 192.168.100.1 the pasword is root and root this would give us a indicaton of what is going on :)

Type 192.168.100.1 into your browser, you may need to login in which case the username and password is root. Then find the figures for upsteam and downstream results and the SNR.
