View Full Version : How much info can ISPs see about your surfing?

I wonder this, being an IT admin with the ability to see logs of websites visited by users etc...
Do you think ISPs could see a list of URLs visited or types of activity by ports etc or even search terms?
Do you think the Network technicians can see this kind of stuff (unofficially in accordance with privacy etc.).

But yes it may be a hell of a long thread but as Cobby has already mentioned some very worrying stuff indeed.

To give a proper answer, even ignoring the phorm debate, yes in theory an ISP could see anything you do that isn't encrypted (well enough). DNS lookups, GET requests, POP3 connections etc all flow through routers and other hardware that they own.

So if someone who had access to the hardware really wanted to see what you were doing they could.
